Barrow-in-Furness - Multiple Temporary Road Closures Due To Highway Works

WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS COUNCIL (VARIOUS ROADS IN THE BARROW-IN-FURNESS LOCALITY AREA) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) (NO.16) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable highway works to be carried out (“the Works”), Westmorland and Furness Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to;

Prohibit any vehicle, which is travelling in an easterly direction along the A590 Ironworks Road, from making a left turn onto Walney Road.

Alternative Route for North Bound Vehicles: Via Phoenix Road and the unrestricted section of Walney Road (A590).

A590 Ironworks Road, Barrow-In-Furness - (Ref: TTROW/I/9502)

Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the lengths of road specified in the attached Schedule.

Suitable diversion routes will be indicated on site by the display of relevant traffic signs as and when the temporary closures are in force.

Westmorland and Furness Highways will ensure that local residents and the general public are informed of which roads are to be closed and when, nearer the time.

A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

The Order will come into operation on 3rd August 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required for 3 months and only as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed.

SCHEDULE

EXTENT OF RESTRICTIONS AND ALTERNATIVE ROUTES

1. Matlock Road, Barrow-In-Furness - (Ref: TTROW/I/9467)

From its junction with Oxford Street, extending in a north westerly direction to its junction with Harrogate Street.

Alternative Route: Via Harrogate Street, Victoria Avenue and Oxford Street.

2. Coronation Drive, Barrow-In-Furness - (Ref: TTROW/I/9473)

From its junction with Newton Road, extending in an overall easterly direction for a distance of approx. 260 metres.

Alternative Route: Via the unrestricted section of Coronation Drive, Greystone Lane, Long Lane and Newton Road.

3. Howard Street and Nelson Street, Barrow-In-Furness - (Ref: TTROW/I/9508)

(i) Howard Street, from its junction with Nelson Street Back Street, extending in a south easterly direction for approx 50 metres.

Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of Nelson Street, Keyes Street, Anson Street and Bath Street.

5. U6157 Rising Side and Stackwood Avenue, Barrow-In-Furness - (Ref: TTROW/I/9541)

From its junction with Middle Hill, extending in a north easterly then southerly direction to its junction with Head Meadow.

Alternative Route: via Head Meadow and Middle Hill.

6. A590 Walney Road, Barrow-In-Furness - (Ref: TTROW/I/9502)

From its junction with Ironworks Road, extending in a northerly direction for a distance of approx. 1.2 km.

Alternative Route: via the unrestricted section of Walney Road, Phoenix Road and the unrestricted section of Ironworks Road.
