What is happening?

WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS COUNCIL (OLD SCOTCH ROAD, GRAYRIGG SOUTH LAKELAND) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that because of the likelihood of danger to the public, as a result, of the dangerous condition of the bridge, Westmorland and Furness Council hereby prohibits the passage of vehicles along that section of Old Scotch Road, Grayrigg, from its junction with the U5293, extending in a north easterly direction for a distance of approx. 140 metres.

A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

A suitable alternative route for vehicles will be available via the unrestricted sections of Old Scotch Road, C5069 and U5293.

This follows two emergency notices dated 9 June 2026 and 30 June 2026.

The Order will come into operation on 21 July 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
