What is happening?

CITY OF BRISTOL

(YORK PLACE, CITY CENTRE, BRISTOL)
(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF USE BY VEHICLES) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is hereby given that the City Council of Bristol in pursuance of the provisions of section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended intend to make an Order the effect of which will be to close, temporarily, to vehicles that length of York Place which extends from St. Georges Road to the common boundary line of No.7 York Place and No.15 Queens Parade.

The Order is required because works are being or are proposed to be executed on or near the road and will be operative from 11th August 2026 for a maximum period of 18 months. However, the closure may not be implemented for the whole of the period, but only as necessitated by the works (which are anticipated to take place between 11th August 2026 and 9th February 2027).

ALTERNATIVE ROUTE: York Place (part unaffected), Queens Parade, Brandon Steep, St. Georges Road and vice versa

(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF USE BY VEHICLES) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is hereby given that the City Council of Bristol in pursuance of the provisions of section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended intend to make an Order the effect of which will be to close, temporarily, to vehicles the lengths of roads specified in Schedule 1 to this Notice.

The Order is required because works are being or are proposed to be executed on or near the roads and will be operative from 10th August 2026 for a maximum period of 18 months. However, the closures may not be implemented for the whole of the period, but only as necessitated by the works (which are anticipated to be of between 1 day and 3 weeks duration each, within the period between 10th August 2026 and 31st January 2027).

In addition, the closure of lengths of roads specified in Schedule 1 to this Notice which also provide part of an alternative route (as specified in Schedule 2 to this Notice) will be managed so as to allow the provision of the alternative routes whilst facilitating the works programme.

SCHEDULE 1 – Temporary Prohibition of Use by Vehicles

1. Eugene Street – from Little George Street to Pennywell Road

2. Little George Street -– from Wade Street north eastwards for 50 metres

3. Little George Street – from Eugene Street to the common boundary line of No.8 Little George Street and Units 5 and 6 Little Ann Street

4. Pennywell Road – from the common boundary line of No.2 and No.3 Saints Court, Pennywell Road to the common boundary line of No.12 and No.14 Pennywell Road

SCHEDULE 2 – Alternative Routes
1. north westbound: Pennywell Road, Easton Way, M32 Roundabout Junction 3, Newfoundland Way to M32 Roundabout Junction 3 – Slip Roads, Newfoundland Way, Houlton Street, Wade Street, Little George Street south eastbound: Little George Street, Wade Street, Lawfords Gate, Pennywell Road

2. Wade Street, Little Ann Street, Eugene Street, Little George Street (part unaffected) and vice versa

3. Eugene Street, Little Ann Street, Wade Street, Little George Street (part unaffected) and vice versa

4. north eastbound: Pennywell Road (part unaffected), Lawfords Gate, Stapleton Road, Easton Way, Pennywell Road (part unaffected) south westbound: Pennywell Road (part unaffected), Easton Way, M32 Roundabout Junction 3, Newfoundland Way to M32 Roundabout Junction 3 – Slip Roads, Newfoundland Way, Houlton Street, Wade Street, Lawfords Gate, Pennywell Road (part unaffected)
