M11 Motorway - Temporary Prohibition Of Traffic To Carriageway Resurfacing
What is happening?

THE M11 MOTORWAY (JUNCTION 9A) AND THE All TRUNK ROAD (STUMP CROSS INTERCHANGE TO BALSHAM ROAD JUNCTION, CAMBRIDGESHIRE) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 202_
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited(a) intends to make an Order on the M11 Motorway and the Al 1 Trunk Road in the Counties of Essex and Cambridgeshire to enable carriageway resurfacing, nearby local authority roundabout work and safety barrier works to be carried out in safety.
The works would take place, in phases, over approximately 4 months (8pm to 6am) starting on or after Monday 10 August 2026.
The effect of the Order would be to close the -
• Al 1 southbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Balsham Road junction to the entry slip road at Fourwentways junction, including the entry slip road at Balsham Road junction: Traffic would be diverted westbound at A14 J36 to join the M11 southbound at A14 J31.
• A11 and M11 southbound carriageway from the exit slip road at A505 Pampisford Interchange to the M11 entry slip road at Junction 9a, including the All entry slip road at Newmarket Road, Abington, and exit slip road at Stump Cross Interchange: Traffic would be diverted southbound on the A505 from Pampisford Interchange, then motorway traffic to continue to M11 J10, or non-motorway traffic via the southbound A1301.
• M11 and Al 1 northbound carriageways from the M11 exit slip road at Junction 9a to the entry slip road at Al 1 Fourwentways junction, including the entry slip roads at Al 1 Stump Cross Interchange and A505 Pampisford Interchange. Traffic would be diverted when the All entry slip road at Pampisford Interchange is
• open; via the northbound A505 from M11 J10 to re-join the Al 1 at Pampisford Interchange,
• closed; for motorway traffic via the eastbound carriageway of the A14 from M11 J14 to re-join the All at Al 4 J36 Nine Mile Hill Interchange, or for non-motorway traffic via the A505 slip road leading to Newmarket Road then A1307 Cambridge Road.
• all lay-bys adjacent to the All northbound and southbound carriageways between Stump Cross Interchange and Balsham Road junction for 24 hours daily.
The closures (which would not apply to emergency service or works vehicles) and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs.
The Order would come into force on 3 August 2026 and may continue in force until the works detailed above have been completed, or for a maximum duration of eighteen months whichever is the earlier.
