What is happening?
THE HAMPSHIRE (ROMAN ROAD AND ROMAN WAY, BASINGSTOKE) (40 MILES PER HOUR SPEED LIMIT) (REVOCATION) ORDER 2026
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Hampshire County Council made the above-mentioned Order on Tuesday 7th July 2026, in exercise of its powers and duties under Sections 84 and 122 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the Act”), Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Act, and of all other enabling powers, after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police in accordance with Part III of Schedule 9 of the Act, and having discharged its duty under section 122 of the Act.
GENERAL NATURE AND EFFECTS OF THE ORDER: Will be to restore Restricted Road status – resulting in a 30 miles per hour speed limit – on Roman Way and Roman Road in Basingstoke by revoking the existing orders:
The Hampshire (C225 Roman Road, Basingstoke) (40 Miles Per Hour Speed Limit) Order 2002
The Borough of Basingstoke (Roman Road and Roman Way) (40 Miles Per Hour Speed limit) Order 1972
This will, in effect, introduce a 30 miles per hour speed limit on Roman Way / Roman Road between their junction with B3400 Worting Road and their junction with A339 Kingsclere Road.
DATE OF OPERATION: The order will come into force on Saturday 18th July 2026.

(ii) Deanes Reception Civic Offices, London Road, Basingstoke, RG21 4AH (Opening hours: Monday – Friday: 08.30 – 16.30
(iii) Hampshire County Council Headquarters, The Castle, Winchester, SO23 8UD (Opening hours: Mondays to Thursdays 8.30 – 5.15; Fridays 8.30 – 4.45)
