THE M6 MOTORWAY (JUNCTIONS 32-33 NORTHBOUND CARRIAGEWAY)

(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 09346363) intends to make an Order on the M6 Motorway, in the City of Preston, in the County of

Lancashire, to enable resurfacing, replacement of road markings and stud works, and other general maintenance; to be carried out in safety.

The Order will on the following sections of the M6 Motorway:

a)   impose a 50-mph speed limit on the northbound carriageway, from a point 297 metres north of the entry slip roads at J32, to a point 511 metres south of the Bilsborrow Lane Bridge.

b)   allow the hard shoulder adjacent to the northbound carriageway to be used as a running lane, from a point 407 metres north of the Dean Brook Culvert, to a point 623 metres south of the Bilsborrow Lane Bridge. A 50-mph speed limit will be in force on the hard shoulder when used as a running lane, as indicated by traffic signs.

The restrictions are expected to take place during an overnight period between 20:00 and 06:00, starting Monday 17 August 2026 and ending on Saturday 12 August 2026.

However, works may start and continue between the same times on subsequent nights, until completed.

The restrictions will not apply to emergency services or special-forces vehicles. The restrictions will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall, be indicated by traffic signs.
