York - Multiple Temporary Traffic Restrictions Due To Various Works

What is happening?

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), on Thursday, 09 July 2026 in respect of the locations numbered (1), (2), (3) & (4). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the locations numbered (5), (6), (7), (8), (9) & (10).

(1) YORK ROAD LEVEL CROSSING, STRENSALL

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding through that length of road at York Road Level Crossing, Strensall (closed road) during the period when railway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2300hrs on Sunday, 12 July 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Monday, 13 July 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via York Road, Princess Road, Moor Lane, Ox Carr Lane.

(2) PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY NO. 18/18/10, HAXBY

This Order prohibits pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of public right of way on public footpath 18/18/10, Haxby on Sandy Lane between its junction with The Village and the projected southern boundary of Property No. 100 The Village (closed public right of way) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Wednesday, 15 July 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Tuesday, 21 July 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted pedestrians will not be signed during the works period. Access will be maintained for pedestrians and cyclists throughout the works period. Additionally, access will be maintained for resident and emergency vehicles on Sandy Lane during the works period.

(3) CLIFTON INGS NATIONAL CYCLE NETWORK ROUTE NO 65) (CONTINUATION), YORK

This Order continues in force The York (Clifton Ings National Cycle Network Route No 65) (Temporary Traffic Restriction) Order 202 (original Order). The effect of which is to continue the prohibition on vehicles and pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of cycleway on Clifton Ings National Cycle Network Route No 65, York between its junctions with Public Right Of Way 26/4/10 and the junction with Public Right Of Way 27/1/10 (closed cycleway) during the period commencing at 0001 hours on Friday, 10 July 2026 and ending at 2359hrs on Sunday, 10 January 2027 (works period) or on a date when flood defence works being undertaken thereon have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted pedestrians & cyclists will be signed during the works period.

(4) BACK LANE OF CLAREMONT TERRACE FROM ADJACENT TO NO. 1 TO REAR OF NO. 16 & UNION TERRACE CAR PARK (CONTINUATION), YORK

This Order continues in force The York (Back Lane of Claremont Terrace from adjacent to No. 1 to rear of No. 16 & Union Terrace Car Park) (Emergency Temporary Traffic Restriction) Order 2026 (original Order). The effect of which is to continue the prohibition on vehicles and pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Back Lane of Claremont Terrace from adjacent to No. 1 to rear of No. 16 & Union Terrace Car Park, York (i) the rear access to property No's 1 to 16 on Claremont Terrace and (ii) South-east car parking spaces of Union Terrace Car Park (closed road) during the period commencing at 0001 hours on Saturday, 11 July 2026 and ending at 2359hrs on Friday, 28 August 2026 (works period) or on a date when structural wall repair works being undertaken thereon have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route will not be signed during the works period. Access for pedestrians to Back Lane of Claremont Terrace will be maintained throughout the works period. Additionally, blue badge holder parking and Car Club holder parking will remain unaffected during the Union Terrace Parking Suspension.

(5) GLEBE AVENUE, ACOMB

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Glebe Avenue, Acomb between the projected north-western boundary of property No. 8 to its junction with Malvern Avenue (closed roads) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 20 July 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Wednesday, 22 July 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Carr Lane, Boroughbridge Road, Malvern Avenue. Access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period.

(6) MANSFIELD STREET, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Mansfield Street, York between its junction with Foss Islands Road and a point 101 metres north-east of said junction (closed roads) during the period when carriageway resurfacing works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 20 July 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Wednesday, 22 July 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0800hrs and 1700hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period. Access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period.

(7) CEMETERY ROAD, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Cemetery Road, York between its junction with Heslington Lane and the projected southern boundary of property No. 26 (closed roads) during the period when carriageway patching works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1900hrs on Monday, 20 July 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Sunday, 26 July 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 1900hrs and 0600hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Fulford Road, Fishergate, Fawcett Street, Paragon Street, Barbican Road. Access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period.

(8) PARK GROVE, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Park Grove, York (i) on Park Grove between the projected south-eastern boundaries of property No’s. 24 & 62 and (ii) on Emerald Street between the north-western boundary of property No. 1 and its junction with Park Grove (closed roads) during the period when gas mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Wednesday, 22 July 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 28 August 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Huntington Road, Monkgate, Lord Mayors Walk, Clarence Street, Haxby Road, Stanley Street, Neville Street, Eldon Street, Amber Street, Earle Street. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout. Additionally, all ‘on-street’ parking places situated (i) on the north side of Park Grove between its junctions with Huntington Road and Brownlow Street and (ii) on the south side of Neville Terrace between western boundaries of property No’s 7 and 30.

(9) SOUTH BANK AVENUE, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on South Bank Avenue, York between its junctions with Nunthorpe Grove and Trafalgar Street (closed roads) during the period when highway works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0930hrs on Wednesday, 22 July 2026 and ending at 1500hrs on Thursday, 23 July 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0930hrs and 1500hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Bishopthorpe Road, Balmoral Terrace, Trafalgar Street. Resident access requirements may be arranged by speaking to the site traffic management operatives, who will co-ordinate with residents’ and businesses’ requirements around the ongoing construction operations. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained during the works period.

(10) ABELTON GROVE, HAXBY

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Abelton Grove, Haxby between its junction with South Lane and a point 141 metres south of said junction (closed roads) during the period when carriageway resurfacing works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Wednesday, 22 July 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 24 July 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0800hrs and 1700hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period. Access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period.

The above temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access nor will they prohibit access to premises provided that access is not prevented by on-going works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
