Darlington - Multiple Temporary Road Closures & Clearway Restrictions Due To Road Surfacing Works

What is happening?

DARLINGTON BOROUGH COUNCIL

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984

(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF VEHICLES AND CLEARWAY) ORDER 2026

WHESSOE ROAD, OTLEY TERRACE AND LONGFIELD ROAD, DARLINGTON

Darlington Borough Council intend, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make an Order under the provisions of Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act, 1984, as amended, the effect of which will be to temporarily introduce:

1. No stopping at any time (clearway); and

2. The prohibition of the driving of vehicles on:

WHESSOE ROAD

From the south side of Westmoreland Street junction southwards and eastwards to the west side of the roundabout at Bonomi Way

An alternative route will be signed via Burtree Lane, North Road, Bonomi Way and vice versa.

OTLEY TERRACE

From its junction with Whessoe Road southwards to the north side of Alliance Street junction

An alternative route will be signed via Alliance Street, Otley Terrace, Hopetown Lane, Station Road, North Road, Burtree Lane, Whessoe Road and vice versa

It is anticipated that this will be effective between 1700hours and 0500hours on Sunday and 1900hours and 0500hours Monday to Saturday commencing 16th August for 8 nights.

LONGFIELD ROAD

From the north side of Crosby Street junction north eastwards to the eastern boundary of 171 Longfield Road

An alternative route will be signed via Whessoe Road, North Road and vice versa.

It is anticipated that this will be effective between 0800hours and 1500hours for 1 week commencing 24th August.

The Order is necessary to allow road surfacing works.

The maximum duration of the temporary restrictions under this Order is 18 months commencing from 16th August 2026.
