What is happening?

SOUTH TYNESIDE COUNCIL
(ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING BAYS-LIMITED WAITING) ORDER 2026

South Tyneside Council proposes to make an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and all other enabling powers. The effect of the Order will be to:-
AMEND Limited Waiting Electric Vehicle Recharging Only – At any time on any day 3hrs no return within 4 hrs on:- Hardie Drive, East Boldon the south side from a point 49m west of its junction with Boker Lane westwards for 16.2m – 6 BAYS; Sea Winnings Way, South Shields (Circular access road – Eastern Entrance) the east side from a point 12.7m south of its junction with Sea Winnings Way (main road) for 10m in a southerly direction – 4 BAYS; Sea Winnings Way, South Shields (Circular access road – Western Exit) the west side from a point 23.6m south of its junction with Sea Winnings Way (main road) for 15m in a southerly direction – 6 BAYS. INTRODUCE Limited Waiting Electric Vehicle Recharging Only – At any time on any day 3hrs no return within 4 hrs on:- Beacon Street, South Shields – eastern side of parking area from a point 5.5m north of its junction with the main carriageway of Beacon St in a northerly direction for 5.5m – 2 BAYS; Beech Avenue, Whitburn – western kerb line from a point 25.5m south of its junction with Myrtle Ave in a southerly direction for 10.5m – 2 BAYS; Conhill, Hebburn – eastern kerb line from a point 31m north of its junction with Hedgeley Rd in a northerly direction for 31m – 8 BAYS; Dale Street, South Shields – southern kerb line from a point 12.5m west of its junction with Chatsworth St in a westerly direction for 17.5m – 6 BAYS; Front Street, Cleadon – eastern kerb line east of the war memorial from a point 8m south of its junction with the main carriageway of Front St in a southerly direction for 12m – 2 BAYS; Galsworthy Road, South Shields – parking area off southern kerb line from a point 14m east of its junction with the access road leading to Fielding Court garages in an easterly direction for 16.5m – 4 BAYS; Gerald Street, South Shields – southern kerb line from a point 49m east of its junction with Geoffrey St eastwards for 15m – 4 BAYS; Grange Road, Jarrow – southern kerb line from a point 22m east of its junction with Walter St in an easterly direction for 15m – 6 BAYS; Stoddart Street, South Shields – southern kerb line from a point 8m southwest of its junction with Brinkburn St north westwards for 10m – 4 BAYS.
Full details of these proposals are contained in the draft order which, together with a plan showing the length of road affected and a statement of the Council’s reasons for proposing to make the Order, may be inspected from Monday to Friday during normal office hours at the Town Hall at the address below. If you wish to raise an objection, express support or make any other observations about these proposals, you must make them in writing to the Council’s Legal Services Department at the address below or by using the same email address above by the 4 August 2026. Any objections must specify the grounds on which they are made.
