What is happening?
CITY OF NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE (NEWCASTLE PRIDE FESTIVAL MARCH 2026) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026
1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne intend, not less than seven days from the date of this Notice, to make an Order under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to prohibit any traffic to proceed on Saint Mary’s Place from its junction with the B1309, Northumberland Street from its junction with Saint Mary’s Place for its entire length, Vine Lane from its junction with Northumberland Street to its junction with John Dobson Street, Ridley Place from its junction with Northumberland Street to its junction with John Dobson Street, Northumberland Road from its junction with Northumberland Street to its junction with John Dobson Street and Blackett Street from its junction with Northumberland Street to its junction with Newgate Street.
2. There is no alternative route for traffic.
3. The Order is required in connection with Newcastle Pride Festival March 2026 (“the Event”) and to reduce the disruption to traffic likely to be caused by the Event. The Order is required to allow the Event to be carried out safely on or near the highway and to ensure the health and safety of the public.
4. Appropriate traffic management will be in place during the closures.
5. Exemptions will be provided for vehicles and personnel engaged in the said event and police, fire brigade and ambulance vehicles and personnel on emergency call.
6. The Order will come into operation on 25 July 2026 and will continue, as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed, up to 25 July 2026 or until the proposed event has ended, whichever is the earlier.
