What is happening?

WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS COUNCIL (VARIOUS ROADS IN THE SOUTH LAKELAND LOCALITY AREA) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) (NO.10) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable utility works to be carried out (“the Works”), Westmorland and Furness Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the lengths of road specified in the attached Schedule.

Suitable diversion routes will be indicated on site by the display of relevant traffic signs as and when the temporary closures are in force.

A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

Any queries to the Highways Hotline 0300 373 3306 or via the Westmorland and Furness Council website. The references to quote are detailed in the schedule.

The Order will come into operation on 27th July 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required for 1 month in total and only as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed.

1. Thurston Bank, Coniston – Start Date 27th July 2026 - Approx. duration 4 days (Ref:TTROW/I9413)

From its junction with Bank Terrace, extending in a north westerly direction for a distance of approx. 95m.

There is no suitable alternative route available for vehicles.

2. U5045 Haws Bank, Coniston – Start Date 28th July 2026 - Approx. duration 5 days (Ref:TTROW/I9419)

From its junction with the A593, extending in a south westerly direction for a distance of approx. 185m.

Alternative Route: via the A593 and the unrestricted section of the U5045.

3. U5174 Cartmel – Start Date 29th July 2026 - Approx. duration 6 days (Ref:TTROW/I9480)

From its junction with the C5040, extending in a south westerly direction for approx. 1.8km.

There is no suitable alternative route available for vehicles.

4. C5041 & U5223 Staveley in Cartmel – Start Date 1st August 2026 - Approx. duration 5 days (Ref:TTROW/I9515)

From its junction with A592, extending in a south westerly direction for approx. 1.1km.

Alternative Route: via the 592, A590 and the unrestricted section of the C5041.

5. C5040 Cartmel Road, Allithwaite – Start Date 2nd August 2026 - Approx. duration 6 days (Ref:TTROW/I9484)

From its junction with Green Lane, extending in a north westerly direction for approx. 900m.

Alternative Route: via the C5041, B5278 Station Road, B7277 Allithwaite Road and the unrestricted section of the C5040.

6. U5155 Low Wood near Haverthwaite – Start Date 3rd August 2026 - Approx. duration 1 week (Ref:TTROW/I9478)

From its junction with the B5278, extending in a north easterly direction for approx. 140m.

Alternative Route: via the B5278 & C5040.

7. C5029 Newton in Cartmel – Start Date 3rd August 2026 - Approx. duration 3 days (Ref:TTROW/I9581)

From its junction with the C5109, extending in a north westerly direction for approx. 220m.

Alternative Route: via the C5109, U5236 and the unrestricted section of the C5029.

8. U5223 Staveley in Cartmel – Start Date 6th August 2026 - Approx. duration 5 days (Ref:TTROW/I9482)

From its junction with the U5223, extending in a north easterly direction for approx. 210m.

Alternative Route: via the C5041 and the unrestricted section of the U5223.

9. C5075 Sedgwick – Start Date 7th August 2026 - Approx. duration 10 nights during the hours of 1900 and 0600. (Ref:TTROW/I9180)

From its junction with the C5071, extending in a south easterly direction for a distance of approx. 2.3km.

Alternative Route: via the C5071 and the C5074.

From its junction with the B5278 for its entire length.

11. U5623 Meathop Road, Grange over Sands – Start Date 5th August 2026 - Approx. duration 10 days (Ref:TTROW/I9577)

From its junction with B5277, extending in a north easterly direction for approx. 1.4km.

Alternative Route: via the B5277, Kendal and the unrestricted section of Meathop Road.

12. Wraysholme Lane, Flookburgh – Start Date 9th August 2026 - Approx. duration 5 days (Ref:TTROW/I9490)

From its junction with Willow Lane, extending in a north easterly direction for approx. 1.1km.

Alternative Route: via Willow Lane, Moor Lane, B5277 Allithwaite Road.
