What is happening?

Portsmouth City Council (Mayfield Road) (Temporary Road Closure) (Temporary Prohibition of Loading and Waiting) (No.120) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that Portsmouth City Council intends to make the above Order under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991.
The Order comes into operation from 27th July 2026 and the effect will be as follows:
A) TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE AND PROHIBITION OF LOADING AND WAITING
MAYFIELD ROAD

From its junction with Copnor Road to its junction with Kensington Road.
(Phase 1 - 2 weeks)
From its junction with Kensington Road to its junction with Randolph Road.
(Phase 2 - 3 weeks)
From its junction with Randolph Road to its junction with Crofton Road.
(Phase 3 - 2 weeks)
From its junction with Randolph Road for 30 metres (to outside No. 64 Mayfield Road).
(Phase 3 - 2 weeks)
From its junction with Randolph Road to its junction with London Road).
(Phase 4 - 3 weeks)
From its junction with London Road for 20 metres.
(Phase 5 - 2 weeks)
RANDOLPH ROAD

From its junction with Mayfield Road for 30 metres (side of 72-74 Mayfield Road).
(Phase 3 - 2 weeks)
From its junction with Mayfield Road for 30 metres (side of 61 Mayfield Road).
(Phase 3 - 2 weeks)
B) TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF LOADING AND WAITING
MAYFIELD ROAD
From its junction with Copnor Road to its junction with London Road.
C) REASON FOR THE ORDER
To facilitate gas works.
D) DURATION OF THE ORDER
From 27th July 2026 to 5th October 2026 or completion of the works, whichever is sooner. Notwithstanding the above, works will take place in phases as notified by signage and letters to residents at least 7 days in advance of works taking place.
E) DIVERSION
Vehicles will be diverted:
Phase 1 - Copnor Road, Kirby Road, Kensington Road;
Phase 2 - Kensington Road, Kirby Road, Randolph Road;
Phase 3 - London Road, Hewett Road, Kensington Road, Kirby Road;
Phase 4 - London Road, Inhurst Road, Randolph Road and vice versa;
Phase 5 - London Road, Thurbern Road, Randolph Road, Mayfield Road and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained around the works.
Cycles to follow vehicle diversion or dismount and follow pedestrian diversion around the works.
