ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 – SECTION 16A
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Northumberland County Council (“the Council”), in exercise of its powers as the local traffic authority under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the Act”) and all other enabling powers, has on the 2nd July 2026 made the Northumberland County Council Crowning of the Salmon Queen 2026 Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (“the TTRO”).
The Council has made the TTRO for the purposes of facilitating the holding of Crowning of the Salmon Queen 2026 (“the Event”) by restricting traffic on the U109 Blakewell Road from its exit from Berwick Bridge heading in a north westerly direction for a length of 20 metres (“Road One”), the C424 Marygate from outside the front of the Town Hall heading in a south easterly direction for a length of 60 metres, the C424 Hide Hill from its junction with Marygate heading in a southerly direction for a length of 145 metres, the C424 Bridge Street from its junction with Hide Hill heading in a north westerly direction for a length of 166 metres, the C424 Bridge End from its junction with Bridge Street heading in a south westerly direction for a length of 36 metres, the C424 Berwick Bridge from its point with Bridge End continuing on in a south westerly direction for a length of 295 metres (“Road Two”) (“Road One and Road Two shall together be known as the Road”).
The TTRO shall come into force at the following times subject to the provisions of Section 16B of the Act:
In respect of Road One, 08:00 hours on 17 July 2026 and will remain in force until 19:00 hours on 19 July 2026; and
In respect of Road Two, 18:35 hours on 17 July 2026 and will remain in force until 19:10 hours on 19 July 2026.
There will be no alternative route available for the duration of the TTRO.
All restrictions on the Road will be sign-posted and staffed and will remain in force only for as long as is necessary.
Nothing in the TTRO shall apply to:
a. Any activities taking place on the Road related to the organisation and holding of the Event;
b. Anything done with the permission of, or at the direction of, a police officer or a Duly Authorised Officer of the Council;
c. Any vehicle being used by, or for the purposes of, the emergency services;
d. Any vehicle being used by or for the purposes of a statutory undertaker (e.g. the loss of supplies of gas, electricity or water to premises in the area, which requires vehicles to be brought onto the Road); or
e. Pedestrian access to any premises adjoining the Road.
