What is happening?
NEW ROAD AND NEW ROAD EAST
ONE-WAY TRAFFIC, PROHIBITED MANOEUVRE AND WAITING RESTRICTIONS
Portsmouth City Council hereby gives Notice that on the 10 July 2026 it made the following Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984: The Portsmouth City Council (New Road and New Road East) (One-Way Traffic, Prohibited Manoeuvre and Waiting Restrictions) Order P030/2024. The Order will come into effect on 15 July 2026.
The effect of the Order will be as follows:
a) To introduce a one-way traffic restriction on New Road East from New Road East (spine) southwards along the new north-south spur (adjacent to No 239 New Road)
b) To prohibit vehicles from making a right turn from New Road East into New Road from the new north-south spur
c) To prohibit vehicles from making a left turn from the northernmost junction of New Road East onto New Road.
d) To extend the existing "No Waiting at Any Time" restrictions in New Road, south side, from outside The Mermaid PH westwards to the property boundary between 212 and 214 New Road.
e) To introduce No Waiting at Any Time, both sides, for the entire length of the spur road east of the new traffic island on the wide junction of New Road and New Road East.
f) To relocate the bus stop clearway on the south side of New Road 21metres west of its current position outside Nos 208-212 and to reduce its length from 19 metres to 10 metres.
g) To extend the "School Keep Clear" restrictions 10 metres in a westerly direction opposite the properties Nos. 207-215 New Road.

Any person wishing to question the validity of the Order or any of its provisions, on the grounds that it is not within the powers of the relevant enabling Act, or that a requirement of any such enabling Act or of any relevant regulations made thereunder has not been complied with, may, within 6 weeks from the date of the Order, make application for this purpose to the High Court.
