What is happening?

The County Council of Durham (Durham Gardens and South Lea, Witton Gilbert) (Temporary Road Closure) Order 2026

The Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of road. A 94 metre length of Durham Gardens to the front of no. 14-28 and 5-15 Durham Gardens and a 127 metre length of South Lea, Witton Gilbert, to the front of No. 19 Durham Gardens to No. 23 South Lea and No. 2-28 South Lea to enable new electric cable installation works to be undertaken. Throughout the period of the closure, a diversion will be available to vehicular traffic from the west side of the closure in a westerly direction on Durham Gardens, then north on B6312 Sacriston Lane then east on May Lea, then south on Durham Gardens then east on Oak Lea, to eastern end of closure and vice versa. The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are required from 8am on Thursday 30/7/2026 and the duration of the works are anticipated to be 11 weeks. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
