Wingate - Temporary Footpath Closure Due To Footpath Improvement Works
What is happening?
THE COUNTY COUNCIL OF DURHAM
(PUBLIC RIGHTS OF WAY, FOOTPATH NUMBERS 39 AND 13, WINGATE PARISH, WINGATE) (TEMPORARY FOOTPATH CLOSURE) ORDER 2026
The Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all pedestrian traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of footpath. A 160 metre length of Footpath No. 39 Wingate Parish, that extends eastward from Gray Square/Caradoc Road and also a 350 metre length of Footpath No. 13 Wingate Parish, that extends south west, west and south from No. 114 High Grange Way to the junction with Footpath No 15, Wingate to enable footpath improvement works to be undertaken. An alternative route will be available to pedestrian traffic from the western side of the closure from Gray Square, west along Gully Road, north on the footways of North Road and Salters Lane, east along Wellfield Road and south on Footpath No 13, to the north eastern side of the closure and vice versa. Additionally, a route will be available from the eastern side of the closure, from Footpath No 14 Wingate Parish south on the Sustrans Cycle Route No 1, then west on Footpath No 15 Wingate to Footpath 13 Wingate, to the south western side of the closure and linking to North Road. The maximum duration of the Order is 6 months. The proposed works are required from Monday 20/7/2026 and for the duration of the works anticipated to be around 6 weeks. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
