What is happening?

The County Council of Durham

(Salisbury Close, Canterbury Close, Gloucester Close, Exeter Close, Lincoln Walk, Norwich Close and Litchfield Close, Great Lumley) (Temporary Footpath Closure) Order 2026

The Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all pedestrian traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of footpath.

Salisbury Close: A 26 metre length to the front of No. 9-15 Salisbury Close.

Canterbury Close: A 39 metre length to the side of No. 18 Salisbury Close and No. 14 Canterbury Close and a 57 metre length from the side of No. 13 Canterbury Close, to the rear of No. 24 Winchester Close.

Gloucester Close: A 41 metre length from the rear of No. 20 Hazel Leigh, to the front of No. 17 Gloucester Close and a 21 metre length to the front of No. 14 Gloucester Close.

Exeter Close: A 74 metre length from the side of No. 14 Gloucester Close, to the front of No. 12 Exeter Close.

Lincoln Walk: A 167 metre length from the side of No. 23 Gloucester Close, to the side of No. 29 Lincoln Walk; a 106 metre length from the side of No. 29 Lincoln Walk, to the rear of No. 13 & 14 Lincoln Walk and a 49 metre length from the rear of No. 13 & 14 Lincoln Walk, to the front of No. 4 Lincoln Walk.

Norwich Close: A 74 metre length from the rear of No. 13 & 14 Lincoln Walk, to the front of No. 14 Norwich Close.

Litchfield Close: A 78 metre length from the side of No. 13 & 14 Lincoln Walk, to the front of No. 16 Litchfield Close to enable gas main replacement works to be undertaken.

Throughout the period of the closure any diversion to pedestrian traffic will be signposted on site. The maximum duration of the Order is 6 months. The proposed works are required from 8am on Monday 27/7/2026 and the duration of the works are anticipated to be 23 weeks. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
