What is happening?

Essex County Council

(A414 Three Mile Hill & A414 Greenbury Way, Writtle/Margaretting)
(Race for Life Special Event) (Temporary 30MPH Speed Limit) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended).

Effect of the orders:
1. To temporarily introduce a 30-mph speed limit as specified below in Writtle/Margaretting in the City of Chelmsford on the following lengths of road between 20:00 18 July 2026 to 20:00 19 July 2026.

40mph speed limit

The Order will come into effect on 18 July 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months unless extended by the Secretary of State.

(Galleywood Road, Chelmsford) 
(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Galleywood Road, Chelmsford in the City of Chelmsford, from a point approximately 160m north east of its junction with Russell Gardens for a distance of approximately 80m in a north easterly then north westerly direction. 

The closure is scheduled to commence on 3rd August 2026 – (22:00 - 05:30) for 1 night, or where stated on a valid permit (EP40018984729 – Horizon Construction Group). 

The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while carriageway resurfacing works are undertaken by Horizon Construction Group.

An alternative route is available via B1007, A1114, B1009, B1007 and vice versa.

The Order will come into effect on 16th July 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(High Easter Road, High Easter) 
(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of High Easter Road, High Easter in the District of Uttlesford, from a point approximately 690m north east, north west then north east of its junction with Herons Lane for a distance of approximately 60m in a north easterly direction. 

The closure is scheduled to commence on 3rd August 2026 for 5 days, or where stated on a valid permit (MX06164778JB – Affinity Water Limited). 

The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while new connection works are undertaken by Affinity Water Limited.

An alternative route is available via High Easter Road, The Street, Rehobeth Street, Stagden Cross Road, Mashbury Road, Barrack Road, Bedfords Hill, Bedfords Farm Road, Mill Road, School Road, High Easter Road and vice versa.

The Order will come into effect on 16th July 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Colam Lane, Little Baddow) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Colam Lane, Little Baddow in the City of Chelmsford, from a point approximately 370m west then north west of its junction with The Rye Field for a distance of approximately 55m in a north westerly direction. 

The closure is scheduled to commence on 24th July 2026 for 4 days, or where stated on a valid permit (BC411001WGPW5L5V – Openreach). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network.

The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while pole replacement works are undertaken by Openreach.

An alternative route is available via Colam Lane, Church Road, Hammonds Road, Sandon Interchange, A414, Little Baddow Road, The Ridge, Colam Lane and vice versa.

The Order came into effect on 2nd July 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(East Hanningfield Road, Rettendon) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of East Hanningfield Road, Rettendon in the City of Chelmsford, from a point approximately 765m north east of its junction with Buckhatch Lane for a distance of approximately 25m in a north easterly direction. 

The closure is scheduled to commence on 22nd July 2026 for 1 day, or where stated on a valid permit (EC30094285535 – UK Power Networks).

The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. 

The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while service upgrade works are undertaken by UK Power Networks.

An alternative route is available via Southend Road, Main Road and vice versa (with access only into East Hanningfield Road, Rettendon Road, Main Road, The Tye and The Common).

The Order came into effect on 2nd July 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Horse and Groom Lane, Galleywood) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Horse and Groom Lane, Galleywood in the City of Chelmsford, from a point approximately 65m north east of its junction with Bekeswell Lane for a distance of approximately 35m in a north easterly direction. 

The closure is scheduled to commence on 24th July 2026 for 4 days, or where stated on a valid permit (BC411001WGRN6M6J – Openreach Limited).

The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while pole replacement works are undertaken by Openreach Limited.

(Molrams Lane, Great Baddow) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Molrams Lane, Great Baddow in the City of Chelmsford, from a point approximately 270m north east of its junction with Gilmore Way for a distance of approximately 30m in a north easterly direction. 

The closure is scheduled to commence on 23rd July 2026 for 2 days, or where stated on a valid permit (BC411001WGRTW63S – Openreach Limited). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network.

The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while pole replacement works are undertaken by Openreach Limited.

An alternative route is available via Molrams Lane, A1060, Maldon Road, High Street, Church Street, Molrams Lane and vice versa.

(Skinners Lane, Galleywood) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

To temporarily close that length of Skinners Lane, Galleywood in the City of Chelmsford, from its junction with Watchouse Road to its junction with Pyms Road a distance of approximately 190m.

The closure is scheduled to commence on 20th July 2026 for 5 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EP201EH2393664A – Essex County Council). 

The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while footway patching works are undertaken by Essex County Council.

An alternative route is available via Skinners Lane, B1009, B1007, Watchouse Lane and vice versa.

The Order came into effect on 2nd July 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Springfield Park Lane, Chelmsford) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Springfield Park Lane, Chelmsford in the City of Chelmsford, from its junction with Springfield Park Road for a distance of approximately 50m in a south easterly direction. 

The closure is scheduled to commence on 20th July 2026 for 8 days, or where stated on a valid permit (AZ5011001499803 – Cadent Gas Limited). 

The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while gas upgrade works are undertaken by Cadent Gas Limited.

An alternative route is available via: Springfield Park Road, Chelmer Road, Springfield Park Avenue and vice versa.

The Order came into effect on 2nd July 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier. 

(Various Roads, City of Chelmsford) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) (Streetworks SW9) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close those lengths of road in the City of Chelmsford as detailed in the Schedule.

The works are scheduled to commence after 2nd July 2026, as stated on a valid permit. The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on One.network. 

The roads will be closed to facilitate each phase and then re-opened to the public. Access will be maintained for emergency services. Diversion routes will be signed at each location and residents will be informed of the dates of each phase via letter / leaflet drop and advanced warning signs on the roads.

The closures are required for the safety of the public and workforce while water mains upgrade works are undertaken by Essex & Suffolk Water.

The Order came into effect on 2nd July 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
