THE LONDON BOROUGH OF BARKING AND DAGENHAM

(WAKERING ROAD, BARKING)

(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF VEHICULAR TRAFFIC) ORDER 2026

NOTICE OF INTENTION

1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that in order to facilitate dismantling TC2 then erecting the top of the crane onto the roof of the new building, the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham intends to make a Temporary Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

2. The order is expected to come in to effect on Friday 31 July 2026. The works expected for:

• Dismantling TC2 then erecting the top of the crane onto the roof of the new building to take 17 day to complete. Completion date estimated as Sunday 16 August 2026 with the work expected to be undertaken between the hours of 8.00am on Friday 31 July 2026 and 10.00pm Sunday 16 August 2026 in three phases as listed below.

• Phase 1 between 4:00am Saturday 1 August 2026 to 8:00pm Sunday 2 August 2026

• Phase 2 between 4:00am Saturday 8 August 2026 to 8:00pm Sunday 9 August 2026

• Phase 3 between 4:00am Saturday 15 August 2026 to 8:00pm Sunday 16 August 2026

However, the Order will remain in force for 18 months to be re-introduced should further works be required.

3. When the works are taking place and the appropriate traffic signs are being displayed the Order will temporarily:-

  • Prohibit all vehicular traffic (Except where marshals have granted access) on Wakering Road, both sides, from its junction with Longbridge Road for a distance of 102 metres in a north-westerly direction.
  • Prohibit all vehicular traffic on Wakering Road, both sides, from a point 102 metres north-west of its junction with Longbridge Road for a distance of 57 metres in a north-westerly direction.
  • Prohibit all pedestrians on Wakering Road, south-west side footpath, from a point 102 metres north-west of its junction with Longbridge Road for a distance of 57 metres in a north-westerly direction.
  • Prohibit waiting and loading at any time on Wakering Road, both sides, from a point 95 metres north-west of its junction with Longbridge Road for a distance of 67 metres in a north-westerly direction.
  • Suspend the Loading only bay on Wakering Road, north-west side, outside No. 50 Wakering Road.
  • Suspend the Payment Parking (TC1) 6am-9pm Max stay 4hrs No return within 2hrs on Wakering Road, south-west side, opposite Wigham House No.16 to 30 Wakering Road.
  • Prohibit all vehicular traffic (Except where marshals have granted access) on Gurdwara Way slip road into Wakering Road from a point 8 metres west of the rear of the common boundary of Wigham House and Phoenix House Government Offices to the western kerbline of Wakering Road.
  • Prohibit all vehicles in the cycle lane on Gurdwara Way, south side, from its junction with Wakering Road to a point approximately 34.8 metres north-west of its junction with Longbridge Road Roundabout.
  • Introduce a Resident drop off/pull in area on Gurdwara Way slip road into Wakering Road from a point 29 metres west of the rear of the common boundary of Wigham House and Phoenix House Government Offices for a distance of 33 metres in a westerly direction.
  • Suspend the one-way on Wakering Road, from its junction with Gurdwara Way to its junction with Longbridge Road, to allow for two-way traffic.
  • Prohibit all vehicles from turning left from Wakering Road into Gurdwara Way.
  • 4. While this closure is in place the following locations will temporarily be controlled by:

    • Temporary three-way traffic lights on Gurdwara Way from a point approximately 55 metres west of its junction with Wakering Road, Gurdwara Way at the eastern end of Gurdwara Way slip road into Wakering Road, Wakering Road from a point 47 metres southwest of its junction with Gurdwara Way.

    5. Alternative routes for pedestrians will be maintained and signed:

    • Via Wakering Road, north-east side footpath

    6. Alternative routes for Vehicular traffic will be maintained and signed:

    • Via Gurdwara Way (westbound carriageway), Gurdwara Way (eastbound carriageway) and Longbridge Road.
