What is happening?

THE BOROUGH OF LUTON
(VARIOUS ROADS)
(TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURES) (No.15) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is hereby given that Luton Borough Council, the Highway Authority for the said Borough, intends to make the above Order under the relevant provisions of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended).

The Order will come into operation on 27th July 2026 for a period of 18 months or when the proposed works have been completed, whichever is the earlier. Specific dates and times will be signed locally. The Order will therefore be in operation during such date and time and to such extent as indicated by traffic signs, barriers or cones.

The effect of the Order will allow the Council to close to vehicular traffic the following roads and lengths of roads:
Kimpton Road from its junction with Windmill Road to its junction with Vauxhall Way. Diversion route via Vauxhall Way, Crawley Green Road, Windmill Road. Anticipated date and times of closure 27th July 2026, 8pm to 5am.
Cranbrook Drive the whole length. Diversion route via Grampian Way, Pennine Avenue, Hill Rise. Alternatively, via Hill Rise, Rossfold Avenue. Anticipated date and times of closure 3rd August 2026, 8am to 6pm.
Grampian Way from its junction with Grampian Way Roundabout to its junction with Mendip Way. Diversion route via Ashwell Avenue, Sundon Park Road. Alternatively, via Sundon Park Road, Chestnut Avenue, Epping Way, Mendip Way. Anticipated date and times of closure 4th August 2026, 8am to 6pm.
Harcourt Street from its junction with Ashton Road to its junction with Tennyson Road. Diversion route via Tennyson Road, London Road, Ashton Road. Alternatively, via Tennyson Road, Baker Street, Ashton Road, Hibbert Street, Tavistock Street, Tavistock Crescent. Anticipated date and times of closure 11th August 2026, 8am to 6pm.
Markham Road the whole length. Diversion route via Wycombe Way, Icknield Way. Alternatively, via Icknield Way, Barton Road, Wycombe Way. Anticipated date and times of closure 10th August 2026, 8am to 6pm.
Pomfret Avenue the whole length. No diversion route available. Anticipated date and times of closure 12th August 2026, 8am to 6pm.
Durbar Road the whole length. Diversion route via Dunstable Road, Chatsworth Road, Portland Road. Anticipated date and times of closure 17th August 2026, 8am to 6pm.
Locarno Avenue the whole length. Diversion route via Toddington Road, Montague Avenue, Wentworth Avenue. Alternatively, via Wentworth Avenue, Chalton Road, Brickley Road, Montague Avenue, Toddington Road. Anticipated date and times of closure 19th August 2026, 8am to 6pm.
Foxglove Way the whole length. Diversion route via New Bedford Road, Montrose Avenue, Blenheim Crescent, Carlton Crescent. Alternatively, via Carlton Crescent, Alexandra Avenue, New Bedford Road. Anticipated date and times of closure 24th August 2026, 8am to 6pm.
Windsor Walk from its junction with Windsor Street to its junction with Dumfries Street. Diversion route via Dumfries Street, Wellington Street, Windsor Street. Alternatively, via Windsor Street, Hastings Street, Dumfries Street. Anticipated date and times of closure 25th August 2026, 8am to 6pm.
Kingsland Road the whole length. No diversion route available. Anticipated date and times of closure 27th August 2026, 8am to 6pm.
Chaul End Lane from its junction with Oakley Road Roundabout to its junction with Roundabout ADJ Popeyes. Diversion route via Dunstable Road, Skimpot Road, Hatters Way. Anticipated date and times of closure 30th July 2026, 8pm to 5am.
Halfway House Roundabout the whole roundabout. Diversion route via Hatters Way, Chaul End Lane, Dunstable Road, Lewsey Road, Leagrave High Street, Poynters Road, Porz Avenue, Boscombe Road. Anticipated date and times of closure 5th August 2026, 8pm to 5am.
Stockwood Crescent the whole length. Diversion route via Farley Hill, Whitehill Avenue, London Road. Alternatively, via London Road, Castle Street, Windsor Street, Farley Hill. Anticipated date and times of closure 21st August 2026, 8am to 6pm.
Leagrave High Street from its junction with Lewsey Road to its junction with Mayne Avenue. Diversion route via Oakley Road, Humberstone Road, Dunstable Road, Lewsey Road. Alternatively, via Strangers Way, Hockwell Ring, The Green, Mayne Avenue. Anticipated date and times of closure 30th July 2026, 8pm to 5am.
Toddington Road from its junction with Luton Road Roundabout to its junction with Harry Scott Court. Diversion route via Grange Avenue, Oakley Road, Dunstable Road, Waller Avenue, Marsh Road, Sundon Park Road, Luton Road. Anticipated date and times of closure 4th August 2026, 8pm to 5am.

The Order is intended to create a window for the works to be done and it is anticipated that the works will be completed over a period as described above. The purpose of the Order is to enable Volker Highways to carry out resurfacing work. For the period of the closure, the Order will also provide for “No Waiting and No Loading” restrictions to apply within the roads and lengths of roads closed for said works. Any vehicle deemed to be in contravention of the restrictions will be issued with a penalty charge notice and removed. This will be in force when traffic signs, barriers or cones are displayed. Access will be maintained as best as possible to properties where this may be done safely whilst such works are being carried out and diversions for traffic where available will be marked by signs.
