Luton - Mutliple Traffic Notices

THE BOROUGH OF LUTON
(VARIOUS ROADS)
(TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURES) (No.13) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is hereby given that Luton Borough Council, the Highway Authority for the said Borough, intends to make the above Order under the relevant provisions of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended).

The Order will come into operation on 27th July 2026 for a period of 18 months or when the proposed works have been completed, whichever is the earlier. Specific dates and times will be signed locally. The Order will therefore be in operation during such date and time and to such extent as indicated by traffic signs, barriers or cones.

The effect of the Order will allow the Council to close to vehicular traffic the following roads and lengths of roads:
Kingsway from its junction with Laporte Way to its junction with Dallow Road. Diversion route via Dallow Road, Dunstable Road. Alternatively, via Dunstable Road, Chaul End Lane, Dallow Road. Anticipated date and times of closure 27th July 2026, 8pm to 5am.
Alexandra Avenue from its junction with Carlton Crescent to its junction with Blenheim Crescent. Diversion route via Blenheim Crescent, Argyll Avenue. Alternatively, via Carlton Crescent, Blenheim Crescent. Anticipated date and times of closure 27th July 2026, 8am to 6pm.
Empress Road from its junction with Archway Road to its junction with Mostyn Road. Diversion route via Mostyn Road, Marsh Road, Archway Road. Anticipated date and times of closure 3rd August 2026, 8am to 6pm.
Gordon Street from a point outside No. 20 Gordon Street to its junction with Manchester Street. No diversion available. Anticipated date and times of closure 3rd August 2026, 10pm to 5am.
New Bedford Road from its junction with Alma Street to its junction with Manchester Street. No diversion available. Anticipated date and times of closure 3rd August 2026, 10pm to 5am.
Manchester Street from its junction with New Bedford Road to its junction with Gordon Street. No diversion available. Anticipated date and times of closure 3rd August 2026*, 10pm to 5am.

The Order is intended to create a window for the works to be done and it is anticipated that the works will be completed over a period as described above. The purpose of the Order is to enable Volker Highways to carry out speed cushion installation and maintenance works. For the period of the closure, the Order will also provide for “No Waiting and No Loading” restrictions to apply within the roads and lengths of roads closed for said works. Any vehicle deemed to be in contravention of the restrictions will be issued with a penalty charge notice and removed. This will be in force when traffic signs, barriers or cones are displayed. Access will be maintained as best as possible to properties where this may be done safely whilst such works are being carried out and diversions for traffic where available will be marked by signs.
