What is happening?

CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (FOOTPATH NO. 114044 IN THE PARISH OF DALSTON) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF PEDESTRIANS) ORDER 2026

CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (CALDEW CYCLEWAY) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF PEDESTRIANS AND CYCLISTS) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable United Utilities to carry out infrastructure works at Dalston Pumping Station (“the Works”), Cumberland Council intends to make Orders the effect of which is to:

  1. Prohibit pedestrians from proceeding along an approx. 598 metre length of Public Footpath No. 114044 in the Parish of Dalston from a point adjacent to Caldew School at Grid Reference: 337030 550379 extending to Grid Reference: 337390 550635; and
  2. Prohibit pedestrians and cyclists from proceeding along approx. 580 metre length of the Caldew Cycleway in the Parish of Dalston from a point adjacent to Caldew School at Grid Reference: 337030 550379 extending to Grid Reference: 337400 550647.

A suitable alternative route for pedestrians for the restricted sections detailed in 1 and 2 above, will be available via the unrestricted section of Public Footpath No. 114044 and the footways alongside Carlisle Road, Dalston. There is no suitable alternative route available for cyclists.

The Orders will come into operation on 20 July 2026 and may continue in force for a period of up to six months from that date as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed. It is anticipated that it will be required for 6 months.
