What is happening?

CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (A7 STANWIX BANK, SCOTLAND ROAD AND ETTERBY STREET, CARLISLE) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable footway works to be carried out on Etterby Street (“the Works”), Cumberland Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to:

1. Prohibit any vehicle which is travelling in a northerly direction along the A7 Stanwix Bank, Scotland Road, Carlisle, from making a left turn from Stanwix Bank onto Etterby Street; and

2. Prohibit any vehicle which is travelling in a southerly direction along the A7 Scotland Road, Carlisle from making a right turn from Scotland Road onto Etterby Street.

Northbound vehicles wishing to access Etterby Street will be filtered into the right hand lane of the northbound carriageway of Stanwix Bank, and should continue along the A7 Scotland Road, Briar Bank, Hartley Avenue, Kingmoor Road, Etterby Scaur and onto Etterby Street.

Vehicles wishing to access Etterby Street from the south bound lane of the A7 Scotland Road, should continue onto Stanwix Bank, around Hardwicke Circus and follow the diversion as stated above.

3. Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the west bound carriageway of Etterby Street, Carlisle from its junction with the A7 Stanwix Bank and Scotland Road, extending in a westerly direction for 50m.

A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

The Order will come into operation on 20 July 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restriction will only be required for 5 days, between 0800 and 1600 hours, each day and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
