What is happening?

SOUTHEND-ON-SEA CITY COUNCIL

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 – SECTION 14(1)

TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC, PARKING, STOPPING, LOADING, UNLOADING & BANNED TURN ORDER 2026

SOUTHCHURCH ROAD A13 & TYRREL DRIVE, SOUTHEND-ON-SEA

Notice is hereby given that Southend-on-Sea City Council intends, no less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

The Effect of the order will be to prohibit any vehicle from:-

  1. proceeding on Southchurch Road A13 from its junction with Porters Grange Roundabout to its junction with Sutton Road and Leyland Court

  2. turn left from Tyrrel Drive into Southchurch Road

  3. parking, stopping, loading & unloading on Southchurch Road from Porters Grange Roundabout to Leyland Court (both sides)

The closure & suspensions are scheduled to commence from 05:00 on the 25th July 2026 until 23:00 on 9th August 2026 or where appropriate signs are showing and weather permitting.

The alternative route will be via:-

Southchurch Road – Queensway, Southchurch Avenue and vice versa

Tyrrel Drive – Right into Lancaster Gardens exit onto Southchurch Road (this access will only be for residents of Tyrrel Drive

The Order will come into effect on 25th July 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

The closure and suspensions are required for the safety of the public and workforce whilst Better Queensway project works takes place and to ensure safe working conditions throughout the construction period.

The prohibitions or restrictions will apply only during such time and to such extent as indicated by traffic signs prescribed by the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016.

Any vehicle waiting in contravention of any restriction/prohibition imposed by this Notice may be issued with a Penalty Charge Notice and removed under the provisions of the Traffic Management Act 2004.
