What is happening?

Somerset Council Hincombe Hill, Shepton Mallet in the Parish of Batcombe (Temporary 30mph Speed Limit) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that on the 26th day of June 2026 Somerset Council made the above Order in exercise of the provisions of Section 14 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as previously advertised on the 19th day of June 2026, to introduce a temporary 30mph Speed Limit as specified in the Schedule below. This Order will come into operation on the 3rd day of July 2026 and will remain in force for eighteen months. The Works are expected to commence on the 9th day of July 2026 for one day (between 09:00 hours and 17:00 hours) to enable Connect It Utility Services working on behalf of Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks to carry out upgrade works to the overhead power lines. The restriction will only apply when indicated by traffic signs. Exemptions are provided in the Order for emergency vehicles.

Hincombe Hill, Shepton Mallet - From a point 223 metres east from its junction with Eastcombe Farm Lane in an easterly direction for a distance of 180 metres

Statement of reasons for making the Order

a) because works are being or are proposed to be executed on or near the road or

b) because of the likelihood of danger to the public, or of serious damage to the road, which is not attributable to such works.
