The A23 GLA Road and Side Road (Brixton Hill and Holmewood Road, London Borough of Lambeth) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic and Stopping) No. 2 Order 2026
- Transport for London in consultation with the London Borough of Lambeth hereby gives notice that it intends to make the above named Traffic Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 for the purpose specified in paragraph 2. The effect of the Order is summarised in paragraph 3.
- The purpose of the Order is to enable gas pipe replacement works to take place on A23 Brixton Hill.
The effect of the Order will be to prohibit any vehicle:
(1) except pedal cycles from exiting Holmewood Road at its junction with the A23 Brixton Hill;
(2) from stopping at the western kerb-line of the A23 Brixton Hill between the extended northern building line of No. 260 Brixton Hill and its junction with Trehamdan Place;
(3) from stopping on Holmewood Road between its junction with the A23 Brixton Hill and the extended eastern building line of No 227 Brixton Hill;
The Order will also:
(4) close the southbound bus lane on the A23 Brixton Hill between the extended common boundary of Nos.256 and 258 Brixton Hill and the extended common boundary of Nos. 235 and 237 Brixton Hill;
(5) suspend the one-way working on Holmewood Road to allow two-way traffic between its junctions with the A23 Brixton Hill and Holmewood Gardens.
Marshals will be available to assist pedestrians and vehicles when required.
Works will be phased such that some restrictions will apply only at certain times.
The Order will be effective at certain times between 5:00 AM on 21st July 2026 and 11:59 PM on 1st October 2026, or when the works have been completed whichever is the sooner. The prohibitions will apply only during such times and to such extent as shall from time to time be indicated by traffic signs.
The prohibitions will not apply in respect of:
(1) any vehicle being used for the purposes of those works or for fire brigade, ambulance or police purposes;
(2) anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform or a person authorised by Transport for London.
- At such times as the prohibitions are in force an alternative route will be indicated by traffic signs via Brixton Hill, Upper Tulse Hill, Fairview Place and Holmewood Gardens to or in reverse to normal route of travel.
