Kent County Council, acting in exercise of its powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, makes or intends to make the following Orders.
CANTERBURY AREA
A28 Thanington Road, Thanington Without, CT1 3UF (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2026
To allow Section 278 works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of A28 Thanington Road, Thanington Without from 27th July 2026 with estimated completion by 29th July 2026, between the hours of 21:00 and 05:00, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed between numbers 71 and 35, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic westbound is via A2 Dover Road, Upper Harbledown Slip On, Boughton Bypass, Brenley Corner Roundabout, A2 London Road, Canterbury Road, A251 Ashford Road, Faversham Road, A252 Canterbury Road, The Street, Maidstone Road, A28 Canterbury Road, Ashford Road and Thanington Road.
The alternative route for any through traffic eastbound is via A28 Thanington Road, Ashford Road, Canterbury Road, A252 Maidstone Road, The Street, Canterbury Road, A251 Faversham Road, Ashford Road, A2 Canterbury Road, London Road, Brenley Corner Roundabout, A2 Boughton Bypass, Dover Road, A2050 Harbledown Slip Eastbound Off, Harbledown Bypass, Rheims Way, A28 Wincheap and Thanington Road.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Acton Road, Whitstable, CT5 1HX (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2026
To allow water works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on Acton Road, Whitstable from 28th July 2026 with estimated completion by 29th July 2026, between the hours of 09:00 and 16:00, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed in its entirety, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Albert Street, Stream Walk, Cromwell Road, Hamilton Road, Regent Street and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Adisham Road, Bekesbourne, CT4 5EY (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2026
To allow pole testing works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Adisham Road, Bekesbourne from 28th July 2026 for up to one day, between the hours of 09:30 and 15:30, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed from the junction with Carter Road heading eastbound for approximately 70m, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Chalkpit Hill, School Lane, Station Road, Bekesbourne Lane, A257 High Street, Wingham Road, Canterbury Road, B2046 High Street, Adisham Road, Station Road, Pond Hill, Adisham Downs Road, Adisham Road and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Bekesbourne Lane, Bekesbourne & Canterbury, CT3 4AD (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2026
To allow pole testing works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Bekesbourne Lane, Bekesbourne & Canterbury from 30th July 2026 for up to one day, between the hours of 09:30 and 15:30, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed near to Orchard House, heading along Bekesbourne Lane for approximately 1360m, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Bekesbourne Lane, A257 Littlebourne Road, Canterbury Road, The Hill, High Street, Bekesbourne Lane, Bekesbourne Hill, Bekesbourne Lane and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Cavendish Road & Victoria Park, Herne Bay. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2026
To allow the surface water separation project to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Cavendish Road & Victoria Park, Herne Bay from 27th July 2026, with estimated completion by 31st July 2026, or until the works have been completed.
The roads will be closed at the junctions where they meet, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Victoria Park, South Road, Kings Road, B2205 Canterbury Road, High Street, South Road and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Chapel Lane, Marshside, CT3 4EP (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2026
To allow pole replacement works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on Chapel Lane, Marshside from 27th July 2026 with estimated completion by 28th July 2026, between the hours of 09:00 and 17:00, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed in its entirety, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Chapel Lane, North Stream, Boyden Gate Hill, Highstead, Chapel Lane and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Millstrood Road, Whitstable, CT5 1QG (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2026
To allow cover replacement works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Millstrood Road, Whitstable from 29th July 2026, with estimated completion by 31st July 2026, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed outside number 35, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Millstrood Road, A2990 Thanet Way, Church Street, Castle Road, The Bridge Approach, Old Bridge Road, Millstrood Road and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Millstrood Road, Whitstable, CT5 3FU (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2026
To allow reinstatement works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Millstrood Road, Whitstable from 20:00 hours on 28th July 2026, with estimated completion by 05:00 hours on 29th July 2026, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed outside number 136, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Millstrood Road, South Street, Virginia Road, Grasmere Road, Clover Rise, A2990 Thanet Way and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Northgate, Canterbury, CT1 2EX (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2026
To allow reinstatement works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Northgate, Canterbury from 19:00 hours on 27th July 2026, with estimated completion by 06:00 hours on 28th July 2026, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed in the vicinity of number 76a, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic northeast bound is via Northgate, Broad Street, A28 Military Road, Tourtel Road, Northgate, New Ruttington Lane, Union Place and Union Street.
The alternative route for any through traffic southwest bound is via Northgate, B2248 Kingsmead Road, St Stephens Road, The Causeway, Pound Lane, St Radigunds Street, Knott’s Lane, King Street, Borough and Northgate.

Northwood Road & Castle Road, Whitstable. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2026
To allow the surface water separation project to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Northwood Road & Castle Road, Whitstable from 27th July 2026, with estimated completion by 15th August 2026, or until the works have been completed.
The roads will be closed at the junctions where they meet, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for Castle Road is via Castle Road, Queens Road, St Annes Road, Northwood Road, B2205 Tankerton Circus, Tankerton Road and vice versa.
The alternative route for Northwood Road is via Northwood Road, B2205 Tower Parade, Tankerton Road, Tankerton Circus, St Annes Road and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Pye Alley Lane, Whitstable. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2026
To allow pole replacement works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Pye Alley Lane, Whitstable from 27th July 2026 with estimated completion by 28th July 2026, between the hours of 09:00 and 17:00, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed outside Coach House Joinery, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Pye Alley Lane, Fox’s Cross Road, A290 Pean Hill, Pye Alley Lane and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Reculver Road, Herne Bay, CT6 6PD (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2026
To allow sewer works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Reculver Road, Herne Bay from 27th July 2026, with estimated completion by 7th August 2026, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed outside number 115, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Reculver Road, Sweechbridge Road, Heart in Hand Road, Margate Road, Margate Road Interchange, Margate Road, Mickleburgh Hill and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
St Alphege Lane, Canterbury, CT1 2WR (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2026
To allow water pipe repair works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of St Alphege Lane, Canterbury from 27th July 2026, with estimated completion by 29th July 2026, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed outside number 2, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via St Alphege Lane, Palace Street, Orange Street, King Street and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Various Roads, Herne Bay. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2026
To allow Section 278 works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of various roads in Herne Bay, in phases, from 27th July 2026, with estimated completion by 28th August 2026, or until the works have been completed.
Phase 1 - Greenhill Road, Thornden Wood Road & Thornden Close
The roads will be closed from 27th July 2026 with estimated completion by 29th July 2026, between the hours of 19:00 and 04:00.
Greenhill Road will be closed at the junction with Longmead Close, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
Greenhill Road, Thornden Wood Road & Thornden Close will be closed at the junctions where they meet, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site. The roads will not be closed at the same time.
Phase 2 - Greenhill Road
The road will be closed from 29th July 2026, with estimated completion by 28th August 2026.
The closure will be imposed at the junction with Blackburn Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for phase 1 and 2 is via Greenhill Road, Thornden Wood Road, Owls Hatch Road, Bullockstone Road, A2990 Thanet Way, Greenhill Road and vice versa.
Phase 3 - Blackburn Road
The road will be closed from 10th August 2026, with estimated completion by 21st August 2026.
The closure will be imposed at the junction with Greenhill Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for phase 3 is via Blackburn Road, Coulter Road, Hawks Road then follow Greenhill Road diversion and vice versa.
