Multiple Temporary Road Closures & Banned Turns Due To Various Works
What is happening?
THE SURREY COUNTY COUNCIL
Chessington Road (B220) and Green Lanes (D2185) West Ewell - Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order 2026
On 01 July 2026 Surrey County Council made the above mentioned Temporary Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
The effect of which will be to prohibit vehicles from entering or proceeding in the length of;
(a) Chessington Road (B220) West Ewell as extends from its junction with the roundabout with (D2266) Longmead Road to its junction with the access to the properties known as "Newton Court";
(b) Green Lanes (D2185) West Ewell as extends from its junction with (B220) Chessington Road to its junction with (X23494) Lower Road (Access to 78 - 102) West Ewell.
Alternative route:
(1) (B220) Chessington Road, (B284) Chessington Road, (B284) Ruxley Lane, (A240) Kingston Road, (A240) Ewell By-Pass, (D220) London Road, (B220) High Street, (B220) Spring Street, and (B220) Chessington Road;
(2) (B220) Chessington Road, (B220) Chessington Road, (B220) London Road, (A240) Ewell By-Pass, (A240) Kingston Road, (B284) Ruxley Lane, (B284) Chessington Road, and (B220) Chessington Road;
(3) Green Lanes, Riverview Drive, and (B220) Chessington Road. In this route in reverse.
This Order is required to facilitate carriageway signalised pedestrian crossing construction works and/or other associated works at the locations for or on behalf of Surrey County Council.
For part (a) these works are anticipated to be carried out within 1 week of nightworks, between the hours of 8:00pm and 6:00am:
For part (b) These works are anticipated to be carried out within 4 weeks, during the 18-month period of operation of this Temporary Order that commences on 13 July 2026.
Advance warning signs will be displayed and the temporary closures, which are anticipated to be in operation 24 hours per day, will only operate when the relevant traffic signs are displayed. Any vehicle found to be obstructing the highway during these works will be removed to outside the limits of the works after all reasonable methods have been undertaken to identify and contact the vehicle's owner.
Access to premises within the affected length of road, including access by emergency service vehicles to these properties will be maintained at all times, as will access for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists. All other vehicular traffic will be required to follow the signed diversion routes.
D284 Church Street, A24 High Street And A2022 Upper High Street, Epsom - Temporary Banned Turns Order 2026
Surrey County Council made the above-mentioned Temporary Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to:-
1. Prohibit vehicles that are proceeding from all directions on A24 High Street and A2022 Upper High Street, Epsom from turning into B284 Church Street, Epsom.
This Traffic Order is required to enable Surrey County Council to carry out traffic signal refurbishment and/or repair and/or maintenance and/or highway works. These works are anticipated to be carried out within 4 weeks of the 12-month period of operation of this Temporary Order that commences on 23 July 2026.
Advance warning signs will be displayed and the temporary banned turns, which are anticipated to be required for 24 hours each day, will only operate when the relevant traffic signs are displayed.
Access for emergency services, residents and businesses will be maintained at all times via the alternative routes:-
1. East Street, Reigate Road, College Road, Alexandra Road, Upper High Street and Church Street.
2. Alexandra Road, College Road, Reigate Road and East Street.
Any vehicle found to be obstructing the highway during these works will be removed to a suitable location outside the limits of the works after all reasonable methods have been undertaken to identify and contact the vehicle's owner. Access for pedestrians and, dismounted cyclists and equestrians will be maintained at all times.
