BOROUGH COUNCIL OF GATESHEAD
(CROSS LANE RESTRICTED BYWAY, DUNSTON), (PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY WH 9/1, WH 7/1, WH 7/2, WH 7/3, WH 5/1), TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026 - NOTICE OF EXTENSION

On the 07 January 2026 the Borough Council of Gateshead made an Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 the effect of which was to temporarily prohibit any vehicle except bicycles to proceed along Cross Lane Restricted Byway WH 9/1, WH 7/1, WH 7/2, WH 7/3, WH 5/1 starting at the junction with Market Lane extending in a northerly direction for a distance of 809 metres to the junction with Cross Lane. (For clarity, this includes but is not limited to, motorised vehicles and any cart attached to a horse. Bicycles with any related trailer are exempt).

The Order was required to ensure safety of the public.

The Order came into force on the 10 January 2026. 

The maximum duration of the Order was 6 months. 

NOTICE IS NOW HEREBY GIVEN that on the 16 June 2026, the Secretary of State granted an extension to this Order until the 10 January 2028 or until the completion of the works; whichever is the earlier. The works being to downgrade the status of this current Restricted Byway to become Bridleway only. All vehicles except bicycles will continue to be prohibited from the Restricted Byway above.
