TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026
Sunderland City Council gives notice that it intends to make an order under section 14(1) of the road traffic regulation act 1984, the effect of which is to temporarily prohibit all pedestrian traffic from the sections of footpaths described in the schedule. The Order is required to allow for repair works to the gas main. The order will come into force on 3rd August 2026. The maximum duration of the closure under the Order will be six months. However, it is anticipated that the works will take 20 weeks. All pedestrians will be prohibited from the sections of footpath described in the schedule (except for personnel involved in the works), until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. An alternative route will be provided via the adjacent highway network.
Schedule: Newstead Court – all associated footpaths linking numbers 1 to 42 Newstead Court; Cleeve Court – all associated footpaths on Cleeve Court; Thornton Court – All associated footpaths linking numbers 5 to 42 Thornton Court; Thornton Court – all associated footpaths linking numbers 47 to 63 Thornton Court; Thornton Court – all associated footpaths linking Thornton Court to Cleeve Court and Newstead Court; Byland Court – the footpath linking 16 Byland Court to Thornton Court; Byland Court - the footpath linking Byland Court to Cleeve Court; Talley Court – all associated footpaths linking number 5 to 29 Talley Court; Talley Court – all associated footpaths linking Talley Court to Thornton Court; Parkway – all associated footpaths linking Parkway subway to Thornton Court and Talley Court; and The Galleries – a section of footpath from a point 10 metres south-west of the extended north-western building line of the Galleries Shopping Centre, for a distance of 18 metres in a south-westerly direction.
