York - Multiple Temporary Traffic Restrictions for Highway and Public Right of Way Works
What is happening?
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), on Thursday, 25 June 2026 in respect of the locations numbered (1), (2), (3), (4), (5), (6) & (7). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the locations numbered (8), (9), (10), (11) & (12).
(1) A59, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on A59, York between the junction with Northfield Lane and the York boundary at Turnbridge (closed roads) during the period when highway resurfacing works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0700hrs on Sunday, 28 June 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Sunday, 19 July 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the roads will only be closed for one day during the works period between 0700hrs and 1700hrs (weather depending). Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via A168, A19. An alternative route for diverted cyclists will be signed during the works period via Marston Lane, Atterwith Lane, Mill Lane, B1224, Wetherby Road, Beckfield Lane, Boroughbridge Road.
(2) CARR LANE, ACOMB
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Carr Lane, Acomb between the junctions with Boroughbridge Road and York Road (closed roads) during the period when highway resurfacing works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0700hrs on Sunday, 28 June 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Sunday, 19 July 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the roads will only be closed for one day during the works period between 0700hrs and 1700hrs (weather depending). Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Boroughbridge Road, Holgate Road, Acomb Road, York Road.
(3) BACK LANE SOUTH, WHELDRAKE
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Back Lane South, Wheldrake between its junctions Main Street and South Ruddings Lane (closed roads) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 29 June 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Tuesday, 30 June 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0800hrs and 1700hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Main Street, Low Well Park.
(4) FRONT STREET, ACOMB
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of carriageway on Front Street, Acomb between the projected south-western boundary of property No. 27 and its junction with Link Road (closed roads) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2000hrs on Monday, 29 June 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Tuesday, 30 June 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 2000hrs and 0600hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Askham Lane, Ridgeway, Wetherby Road, The Green, York Road, Link Road. Access will be maintained pedestrians, residents’ vehicles and emergency vehicles throughout the works period.
(5) PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY NO. 30/1/10 (CONTINUATION), MURTON
This Order, with authorisation from the Secretary of State for Transport, continues in force The Murton (Public Right of Way No. 30/1/10) (Temporary Traffic Restriction) Order 2022 (original Order). The effect of which is to continue in force the prohibition on pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of footpath on Public Right of Way No. 30/1/10, Murton (closed footpath) during the period commencing at 0001 hours on Tuesday, 30 June 2026 and ending at 2359 hours on Friday, 31 December 2027 (works period) or on a date when bridge repair works being undertaken thereon have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted pedestrians will not be signed during this period.
(6) PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY NO. 30/9/10 (CONTINUATION), MURTON
This Order, with authorisation from the Secretary of State for Transport, continues in force The Murton (Public Right of Way No. 30/1/10) (Temporary Traffic Restriction) Order 2022 (original Order). The effect of which is to continue in force the prohibition on pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of footpath on Public Right of Way No. 30/1/10, Murton (closed footpath) during the period commencing at 0001 hours on Tuesday, 30 June 2026 and ending at 2359 hours on Friday, 31 December 2027 (works period) or on a date when bridge repair works being undertaken thereon have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted pedestrians will not be signed during this period.
(7) PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY NO. 3/13/10 (CONTINUATION), STRENSALL
This Order, with authorisation from the Secretary of State for Transport, continues in force The Strensall (Public Right of Way No. 3/13/10) (Temporary Traffic Restriction) Order 2022 (original Order). The effect of which is to continue in force the prohibition on pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of footpath on Public Right of Way No. 3/13/10, Strensall (closed footpath) during the period commencing at 0001 hours on Tuesday, 30 June 2026 and ending at 2359 hours on Friday, 31 December 2027 (works period) or on a date when landslip works being undertaken thereon have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted pedestrians will not be signed during this period.
(8) BISHOPGATE, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of carriageway on Bishopgate, York between the roundabout controlled junction with Tower Street and its junction with Clementhorpe (closed carriageway) during the period when streetlight replacement works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2000hrs on Monday, 06 July 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Tuesday, 07 July 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the carriageway will only be closed for the duration of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Tower Street, Fishergate, Paragon Street, Foss Islands Road, Jewbury, St Maurices Road, Lord Mayors Walk, Gillygate, St Leonards Place, Museum Street, Station Road, Queen Street, Nunnery Lane.
(9) PLAINVILLE LANE & BULL LANE, WIGGINTON
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Plainville Lane & Bull Lane, Wigginton between the projected south-western boundary of property known as Jacobean Lodge and a point 182 metres north-west of said boundary (closed roads) during the period when telecom repair works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 06 July 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Thursday, 09 July 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the roads will only be closed between 0800hrs and 1800hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Bull Lane, Browmoor Lane, Sutton Road, Skates Lane, Huby Road, York Road, Corban Lane. Access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period.
(10) JOCKEY LANE, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Jockey Lane, York (i) on Monks Cross Link between the junction with Jockey Lane and a point 68 metres north-east of said junction, (ii) on Vangarde Way between its junction with Jockey lane and a point 88 metres west of said junction, (iii) on Kathryn Avenue between its junction with Jockey Lane and a point 26 metres south of said junction and (iv) on Jockey Lane between its roundabout controlled junction with Malton Road and a point 88 metres east of its junction with Forge Close (closed roads) during the period when highway resurfacing works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2000hrs on Monday, 06 July 2026 and ending at 0500hrs on Sunday, 19 July 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the roads will only be closed between 0700hrs and 1700hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Monks Cross Drive, Monks Cross Link, Malton Road, A1237, Strensall Road, North Moor Road, New Lane. Access will be maintained throughout the works period.
(11) BROMPTON ROAD, CLIFTON
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Brompton Road, Clifton between the projected eastern boundary of property No. 4 and the its junction with Lister Way (closed roads) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Wednesday, 08 July 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Friday, 10 July 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will be closed throughout the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Water Lane, Clifton, Shipton Road, Rawcliffe Lane. Access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period.
(12) PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY NO. 14/12/10 & KERVER LANE, DUNNINGTON
This Order will prohibit pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of public right of way on public footpath 14/12/10, Dunnington between its junction with Petercroft Lane and Eastfield Lane (closed public right of way) during the period when drainage works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0730hrs on Monday, 06 July 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 31 July 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Additionally, vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Kerver Lane, Dunnington, between the projected north-western boundary of property No. 59 and a point 28 metres north-west of said boundary (closed road). It is envisaged that the road and footpath will be closed between 0730hrs and 1700hrs Monday to Saturday during the works period. An alternative route for diverted pedestrians will be signed during the works period via Kerver Lane, Intake Lane, Horsfield Way, Holly Tree Lane, Eastfield Lane. Additionally, access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period on Kerver Lane.
The above temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access nor will they prohibit access to premises provided that access is not prevented by on-going works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
