Darlington - Temporary Road Closures & Clearway Restrictions for Traffic Calming Works

(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF VEHICLES AND CLEARWAY) ORDER 2026
THOMPSON STREET EAST AND KINGSWAY, DARLINGTON
Darlington Borough Council intend, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make an Order under the provisions of Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act, 1984, as amended, the effect of which will be to temporarily introduce:
- No stopping at any time (clearway); and
- The prohibition of the driving of vehicles on:
THOMPSON STREET EAST
Phase 1 - from the east side of the western junction for Kingsway eastwards to its junction with Salters Lane North
Phase 2 - from the east side of Davison Road junction eastwards to the west side of the eastern junction for Kingsway
An alternative route will be signed via Salters Lane North, North Road and vice versa.
It is anticipated the restrictions will be effective from 3rd August for 2 weeks.
KINGSWAY
From the east side of the access road to St Bede’s school westwards for approximately 65metres
It is anticipated the restrictions will be effective from 18th July for 6 weeks.
The Order is necessary to allow works to install traffic calming and road surfacing works.
The maximum duration of the temporary restrictions under this Order is 18 months commencing from 18th July 2026.
