What is happening?

WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS COUNCIL (VARIOUS ROADS, BARROW-IN-FURNESS) (CONSOLIDATION AND PROVISION OF TRAFFIC REGULATIONS) ORDER 2026

1. Westmorland and Furness Council hereby give notice that on 23 June 2026 it made the above Order under Sections 1 (1), 2(1) to (4), 19, 32, 35, 35A, 38, 45, 46, 47, 49, 51, 53 and 64 and Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

(a) The Order will come into operation on 1 July 2026, and its effect will be to revoke, re-enact and consolidate the restrictions and provisions of The Westmorland and Furness Council (Various Roads, Barrow-in-Furness) (Consolidation and Provision of Traffic Regulations) Order 2025 and;-

(b) Removing the “Limited Waiting Parking Places (At All Times), Waiting Limited to 2 Hours, Return Prohibited within 2 hours (Permit Holders Exempt) on Ferry Road, Burnaby Street, Stewart Street, Earle Street, Cameron Street, St Patrick’s Road, Stanley Road, Ivy Avenue, Ramsden Dock Road, Siemens Street, Abercorn Street, Aberdare Street, Aberdeen Street, Afton Street, Ancaster Street, Anchor Road, Andover Street, Annan Street, Athol Street, Ayr Street, St Andrew’s Street, Schooner Street, Sloop Street, James Watt Terra, Ship Street, Steamer Street, Buxton Street, Farm Street, Dundalk Street, Dundee Street, Dunoon Street, Dunyegan Street, and Island Road replace them with Resident Only Parking Place (At All Times)

(c) Removing the “Limited Waiting Parking Places (At All Times), Waiting Limited to 2 Hours, Return Prohibited within 2 hours (Permit Holders Exempt) on Ferry Road, Burnaby Street, Stanley Road, Ramsden Dock Road, James Watt Terrace, St Andrews Street, Buxton Street, Dunbar Street, Ancaster Street replace them with Disc Zone (At All Times) Waiting Limited to 1 Hour, No Return within 2 hours(Permit Holders Exempt)

(d) Removing the “Prohibition of Waiting, At Any Time” restrictions on parts of Ramsden Dock Road on west side (one side only) between existing two designated parking bays to introducing Resident Only Parking Place (At All Times).

(e) Removing the Limited Waiting Parking Place Mon-Sat 8am-6pm 2 hours no return within 4 hours (permit holders exempt) on part of Rothesay Street, Barrow-in Furness, and replace with Resident Only Parking Place (At All Times).

(f) Removing the “No Waiting At Any Time” on Egerton Court and part of Siemen’s Street, Barrow-in-Furness for replacing with Control Parking Zone (CPZ) proposal due to Landscape improvement project.

(g) Removing the Limited Waiting Parking Place 2 hours no return within 2 hours (permit holders exempt) from Egerton Court area and located some of the bay in south section of Siemens Street due to Landscape improvement project.

(h) Introducing two Mandatory Disabled Parking Bays within Egerton Court area as part of Landscape improvement project.

(i) Removing the Long-Term Parking Place (At All Times) restrictions on parts of Ramsden Dock Road, Barrow-in-Furness.

(j) Removing the Limited Waiting Parking Place Mon-Sat 8am-6pm 2 hours no return within 4 hours (permit holders exempt) on part of Greengate Street, Barrow-in Furness, and replace them with Limited Waiting Parking Place (At All Times) 10 mins no return within 1 hour (permit holder exempt).

(k) Introducing One-way traffic flow on a section of Stackwood Avenue in Barrow-in-Furness, from its junction with Rising Side up to the junction with Middleton Avenue.

(l) Introducing Prohibition of Driving on Lumley Street in Barrow -in-Furness between 8.20 am and 9.00 am and between 3:10 pm and 3.50 pm each day, Monday to Friday inclusive, during Term Time Only.

(m) Introducing “No Waiting At Any Time” on Church Street in Barrow-in-Furness, the north-east side from point of 6.3metres of its junction with Salthouse Road for a distance of 5.8 metres in a north-westerly direction.

(n) Introducing a Prohibition of Driving (At All Times) (All Vehicles) on St Georges Square in Barrow-in-Furness, from its junction with Salthouse Road to its junction with Church Street.

2. Full details of the proposed Order, together with a statement of the Council’s reasons for proposing to make the Order, will be on deposit for public inspection at:-

a) Barrow Library, Ramsden Square, Barrow-in-Furness, LA14 1LL.

b) At the offices of the undersigned.

3. If you wish to question the validity of the Order or of any provision contained in it on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 or on the grounds that any requirement of that Act or any instrument made there under has not been complied with in relation to the Order, you may within six weeks of 23 June 2026 apply to the High Court for this purpose.
