THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND (CLOSURE OF CASTLETOWN WAY AND CASTLETOWN ROAD SUNDERLAND) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026
Sunderland City Council gives notice that it intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit all traffic along the roads and footways in the Schedule. The Order is required to facilitate high voltage cables in or near the roads. The Order will come into operation on 3rd August 2026. The maximum duration of the closure under the Order is 18 months, however it is estimated that the works will only take approximately 1 month from commencement of the works. All traffic will be prohibited from the roads and footways in the Schedule (except personnel and vehicles involved in the works) until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. An exemption will be provided for emergency services on duty and attending an emergency call. A diversion will be provided via the adjacent highway network. Castletown Way will be closed in one direction only, to maintain access for residents and businesses. This will be undertaken on Sundays only. Schedule - Castletown Road from its junction with Castletown Way, for a distance of 30 metres in a westerly direction. Castletown Way, from its junctions with Washington Road to Riverside Road.
