What is happening?

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14(1)(a) and (7)

THE A46 TRUNK ROAD (WIDMERPOOL TO LINCOLN) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC IN LAYBYS) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 9346363) intends to make an order on the A46 Trunk Road between Widmerpool and Lincoln, in the Counties of Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire to enable routine maintenance work to be carried out. 

The effect of the Order will be to close, at different times, any layby adjacent to –
(a) the northbound carriageway of the A46 from its junction with the slip road leading to the roundabout junction with the A606 Melton Road and The Fosse, near Widmerpool (Widmerpool Interchange), to its roundabout junction with the A57 (Carholme Roundabout), at Lincoln; or 

(b) the southbound carriageway of the A46 from its junction with Carholme Roundabout, to its junction with the slip road leading from Widmerpool Interchange.

The layby closures are expected to be carried out between 13:00 hours and 06:00 hours, starting on Tuesday 28 July 2026 and continuing for approximately three months. The Order will come into force on 21 July 2026. 

Vehicles being used for police, fire and rescue authority or ambulance purposes, and vehicles being used in connection with the works will be exempt from the closures.
