PROPOSED ESTABLISHMENT OF CONTROLLED PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS
A690 DURHAM ROAD, SUNDERLAND
Notice is given by the Council of the City of Sunderland that it intends to carry out works to install new pedestrian crossing facilities along the roads described in the Schedule below. The Council has consulted the Chief Officer of Police and given public notice of its proposals in accordance with Section 23(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. A copy of the plans showing the locations of the intended pedestrian Toucan, Puffin and Zebra crossings and statement of reasons may be inspected during normal opening hours at the City Hall, Plater Way, Sunderland, until 21st July 2026. Schedule 1. Durham Road – Toucan Crossing On the north-east bound carriageway. The crossing is to be centred 112.1 metres north-east of the extended north-eastern highway boundary of Thorney Close Road, with a controlled zone of 22.0 metres in either direction, creating a controlled zone of 44.0 metres in total length. On the south-west bound carriageway. The crossing is to be centred 105.9 metres north-east of the extended north-eastern highway boundary of Thorney Close Road, with a controlled zone of 22.0 metres in either direction, creating a controlled zone of 44.0 metres in total length. 2. Durham Road – Puffin Crossing On the east bound carriageway. The crossing is to be centred 66.0 metres west of the extended party property boundary of 37 & 38 Humbledon Park, with a controlled zone of 22.9 metres to the west and 13.6 metres to the east creating a controlled zone of 36.5 metres in total length. On the west bound carriageway. The crossing is to be centred 57.5 metres west of the extended party property boundary of 37 & 38 Humbledon Park, with a controlled zone of 22.8 metres in either direction, creating a controlled zone of 45.6 metres in total length. 3. Durham Road – Zebra Crossing On the north-east bound carriageway. The crossing is to be centred 20.5 metres south-west of the extended party property boundary of 26 & 27 Humbledon Park, with a control zone of 20.7 metres to the south-west and 7.8 metres to the north-east, creating a controlled zone of 28.5 metres in total length. On the south-west bound carriageway. The crossing is to be centred 20.9 metres south-west of the extended party property boundary of 26 & 27 Humbledon Park, with a control zone of 20.7 metres to the north-east and 7.8 metres to the south-west, creating a controlled zone of 28.5 metres in total length.
