What is happening?
THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND (CLOSURE OF FOOTPATHS AT LANGDALE WASHINGTON) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026
Sunderland City Council gives notice that it intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit all pedestrians along the footpaths in the Schedule below. The Order is required to facilitate the installation of underground electrical cables on or near the footpaths. The Order will come into operation on 3rd August 2026. The maximum duration of the closure under the Order will be 6 months, however it is estimated that the closures will only be in operation for 12 weeks from the commencement of the works. All pedestrians will be prohibited from the footpaths (except personnel involved in the works) until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. A diversion for pedestrians will be provided via the adjacent highway network. Langdale, all associated footpaths linking 46 Langdale and 115 Langdale. Langdale, the footpath linking 4 Langdale and 9 Swirral Edge. Langdale, the footpath linking 67 Langdale to the rear of 22 Blencathra. Langdale, the footpath linking 82 Langdale to the rear of 33 Stonycroft.
