Barnet - Experimental Right-Turn Restrictions Into Exeter Road

The Barnet (Prescribed Route) - (Experimental) (No.2) Traffic Order 2026
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the London Borough of Barnet, on the 25th June 2026 has made the above-mentioned Order ("The Order") under Section 9 of The Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and all other enabling powers.
In order to address vehicular conflicts concerns regarding the level of traffic turning into Exeter Road N14 and about speeding and obstruction, and improve road safety, the general effect of the Order will be to introduce the following measures on an experimental basis:
1. The prohibition of motorists travelling on Chase Side N14 from turning right into Exeter Road N14 between the hours of 7:00am to 10:00am and 3:00pm to 6:00pm Monday to Sunday.
2. The prohibition of motorists travelling on Brookside South EN4 from turning right into Exeter Road N14 between the hours of 7:00am to 10:00am and 3:00pm to 6:00pm Monday to Sunday.
The prohibitions referred to above, will not apply to cyclists, residents of Exeter Road N14, the residents of No.197 and No.199 Chase Side N14 and the residents of No.14 Brookside South EN4, who have applied for and been granted a valid dispensation permit, or anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police officer in uniform or any vehicle being used for ambulance, fire brigade or police purposes in emergency.
The Order provides that, in pursuance of section 10(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the Chief Executive of the Council or some person authorised in that behalf by him, may, if it appears to him essential in the interests of the expeditious, convenient and safe movement of traffic or for preserving or improving the amenities of the area through which any road affected by the Order run, modify or suspend the operation of the Order or any provision thereof.
A copy of the Order, which will come into operation on Monday 6th July 2026, a plan of the relevant areas and the Council's Statements of Reasons for making the Order can be obtained for a period of 6 months from the date on which this notice is published, by emailing: HighwaysCorrespondence@Barnet.gov.uk, or by writing to: The Design Team, Highways Section, 2 Bristol Avenue, Colindale, London, NW9 4EW.
Any person wishing to question the validity of the Order or any of its provisions on the grounds that it is not within the relevant powers of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 or that any of the relevant requirements thereof or of any regulation made there-under have not been complied with in relation to the Order may within six weeks of the date on which the Order was made, make application for the purpose to the High Court.
If the provision of the Order continues in operation for a period less than six months, the Council will consider in due course whether the provisions of the Order should be reproduced and continued in force indefinitely. Anyone who wishes to object to the making of such an Order for the purpose of such reproduction and continuation in force may, within the period of six months from the date on which the Order came into operation, send a statement in writing of their objection and the grounds thereof to: The Design Team, Highways Section, 2 Bristol Avenue, Colindale, London, NW9 4EW or via email to: HighwaysCorrespondence@Barnet.gov.uk.
