(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND
PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2026
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 09346363) intends to make an Order on the M6 Motorway, in the City of Lancaster, in the County of Lancashire, to enable resurfacing works and other general maintenance; to be carried out in safety.
The Order will on the following section of the M6 Motorway:
i. impose a 50-mph speed limit on the northbound carriageway, from a point 160 metres north of the Fernyhalgh Lane Bridge, to a point 95 metres south of the
Whittingham Lane Bridge; ii. ban all traffic from the northbound carriageway from a point 400 metres north of the D’Urton Lane Bridge, to a point 1,000 metres north of the D’Urton Lane Bridge;
iii. ban all traffic from the northbound exit slip road at J32.
Restriction i. is expected to be in place during a continuous period starting at 20:00 on Monday 20 July 2026 and ending at 06:00 on Thursday 13 August 2026.
Prohibitions ii.-iii. are expected to be in place overnight between 20:00 and 06:00 during a
period starting on Monday 20 July 2026 and ending on Thursday 13 August 2026.
However, works may start and continue during subsequent continuous periods or between the same times on subsequent nights until completed.
Diversions routes via alternative junctions of the M6 Motorway and local roads will be well signed. The restrictions will not apply to emergency services or special-forces vehicles, and the prohibitions will not apply to emergency services, works, but will apply to traffic officer vehicles. The restrictions and prohibitions will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall be indicated by traffic signs.
