NOTICE OF CONFIRMATION OF A MODIFICATION ORDER
SECTION 53 OF THE WILDLIFE AND COUNTRYSIDE ACT 1981
WEST SUSSEX COUNTY COUNCIL DEFINITIVE MAP AND STATEMENT FOR HORSHAM WEST SUSSEX COUNTY COUNCIL (HORSHAM NO. 1: SOUTHWATER (ADDITION OF PUBLIC FOOTPATHS))
DEFINITIVE MAP MODIFICATION ORDER 2026
On 2 June 2026 WSCC confirmed the above-named order, unopposed and without modification, under Section 53 and Schedule 15 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, which takes effect on that date.
The effect of the order, confirmed as made, is to modify the Definitive Map and Statement for Horsham by the addition of:
(1) A footpath commencing on footpath 1658 on the southern boundary of Courtland Wood at grid reference 515065, 127192 and proceeding generally north, then east, then north for a distance of approximately 653 metres before intersecting with footpath 1660 at grid reference 515335, 127630, with a width varying between 0.35 metres and 1.1 metres.
(2) A footpath commencing at grid reference 515317, 127518 and proceeding east, then northeast, for a distance of approximately 223 metres before intersecting with footpath 1660 at grid reference 515514, 127563, with a width of 1.1 metres.
(3) A footpath commencing at grid reference 515250, 127394 and proceeding generally east then south for a distance of approximately 313 metres before intersecting with footpath 1658 at grid reference 515365, 127276 on the eastern boundary of Courtland Wood, with a width of 1.1 metres.
A copy of the order and the order plan may be seen free of charge at Legal Services, County Hall, Chichester, PO19 1RQ, Horsham District Council and Southwater Parish Council during opening hours. A copy of the order and plan may be purchased for £8.00 from Legal Services, County Hall.
If any person aggrieved by the order desires to question its validity, or that of any provision contained in it, on the grounds that it is not within the powers of Section 53 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, or that any of the requirements of Schedule 15 of the act have not been complied with in relation to it, they may, under paragraph 12 (i) of Schedule 15 to the act, within 42 days from 25 June 2026, make an application to the High Court.
