What is happening?

CUMBERLAND COUNCIL

(FOOTPATH NOS. 422003, 422008 AND 422013 IN THE PARISH OF ST BEES) (FORMERLY ROTTINGTON) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF PEDESTRIANS) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the above Order (“the Order”) made by Cumberland Council on 20 January 2026, which became operative on 29 January 2026, because of the likelihood of danger to the public and which would otherwise expire on 29 July 2026

: has been continued in force with the approval of the Secretary of State for Transport until 29 January 2028.

The effect of the Order is to prohibit pedestrians from proceeding along the following sections of Public Footpath in the Parish of St Bees (formerly Rottington):

(i) An approx. 221.0m length of Public Footpath No.422003 between Grid References 294582 513416 and 295769 511808; an

(ii) An approx. 587m length of Public Footpath No. 422008 between Grid References 294210 513636 and 294582 513416; and

(iii) An approx. 194m length of Public Footpath No.422013 between grid references 295769 511808 and 295909 511889.

There is no suitable alternative route available for pedestrians.
