What is happening?

(FOOTPATH NO. 413016 IN THE PARISH OF LOWCA AND FOOTPATH NO. 417016 IN THE PARISH OF MORESBY)

(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF PEDESTRIANS) ORDER 2026

AND

CUMBERLAND COUNCIL

(BRIDLEWAY NO. 413001 IN THE PARISH OF LOWCA AND BRIDLEWAY NO. 417013 IN THE PARISH OF MORESBY)

(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF PEDESTRIANS, HORSES AND CYCLISTS) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the above Orders (“the Orders”) made by Cumberland Council on 27 January 2026 which became operative on 2 February 2026, because of the likelihood of danger to the public and which would otherwise expire on 2 August 2026 : has been continued in force with the approval of the Secretary of State for Transport until 2 August 2027.

The effect of the Orders is to:

  1. Prohibit pedestrians from proceeding along the following lengths of Public Footpath:

    (i) The entire length of Public Footpath No 413016 in the Parish of Lowca; and

    (ii) The entire length of Public Footpath No 417016 in the Parish of Moresby.

There is no suitable alternative route available for pedestrians.

  1. Prohibit pedestrians, horses and cyclists from proceeding along the following lengths of Public Bridleway:

    (i) An approx. 26.6 metre length of Public Bridleway No: 413001 in the Parish of Lowca between Grid References 298845, 521378 and 298851, 521393;

    (ii) An approx. 69 metre length of Public Bridleway 417013 in the Parish of Moresby between Grid References 298845, 521378 and 298904, 521359.

There is no suitable alternative route available for pedestrians, horses or cyclists.
