(PROHIBITION OF MOTOR VEHICLES AND CARRIAGES) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is given that on 22 June 2026 Oxfordshire County Council made the above order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. Cornhill Lane in East Challow is a series of joined BOATs (Byways Open to all Traffic) and highly vulnerable to damage. This order, which comes into force on 29 June prohibits motor vehicles & horse drawn carriages but four or more wheels and wider than 1.5m [4ft 11in] all year round from using Cornhill Lane between its junction with the A417 Faringdon Road to the north, and the B4507 Ickleton Road to the south. This is due to previous continual damage caused by motorised vehicle. Use will continue to be permitted for pedestrians, cycles, horses, disabled persons wheelchairs and powered mobility conveyances, and for access by agricultural land users and highway maintenance vehicles and refuse collection.

Additionally, motorcycles will still be permitted to use the route, however this will be reviewed after 12 months.

Appropriate signage will be displayed at all access points to inform byway users.

If you wish to question the validity of this Order or of any provision contained in it on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, or on the grounds that any requirement of this Act or of any instrument made under it has not been complied with in relation to this Order, you may within six weeks from 22 June 2026 apply to the High Court for this purpose. Prohibition of Through Traffic

Date of Order: 22 June 2026

Coming into force: 30 June 2026

This Order is being introduced because of electrical power supply works which are anticipated to be completed 6 July 2026. The effect of the Order is to temporarily prohibit any vehicle proceeding in the length of unnamed road northeast of Moreton Road for work outside Spencer Cottage. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force. Exemptions are included for emergency services and for the works and for access to premises which are only accessible from the closed section of road. This Order will remain in force for a maximum period of 18 months or until the works have been completed whichever is the sooner. (Ref: T18000/RAG)

Prohibition of Vehicles

Date of Order: 8 June 2026

Coming into force: 18 June 2026

This Order is being introduced because of carriageway resurfacing and reinstatement works which are anticipated to complete by 24 June 2026. The closure will operate between the hours of 8pm and 6am on weekdays only. The effect of the Order is to temporarily prohibit any vehicle proceeding or waiting in that part of Main Road between the junctions of Kingsholme Close and Blewbury Road, and that part of the B4016 between the junctions of Bishops Orchard and Hagbourne Road west from Bessel’s Way. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force. Exemptions are included for emergency services and for the works and for access to premises which are only accessible from the closed section of road. The alternative route for traffic will be signed locally. This Order will remain in force for a maximum period of 18 months or until the works have been completed whichever is the sooner. Prohibition of Through Traffic

Date of Order: 29 June 2026

Coming into force: 6 July 2026

This Order is being introduced because of gas main replacement works which are anticipated to be completed 4 September 2026. This is a 24 hour daily road closure. The effect of the Order is to temporarily prohibit any vehicle proceeding in the length of Reading Road from the junction with Papist Way to outside No. 16 Reading Road. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force. Exemptions are included for emergency services and for the works and for access to premises which are only accessible from the closed section of road. Pedestrian access maintained post closure. Cyclists must dismount and walk past closure. The alternative route for through traffic is via the A329 – A4130 – A417 – A329 and vice versa. This Order will remain in force for a maximum period of 18 months or until the works have been completed whichever is the sooner. (Ref: T17978/AC)

Coming into force: 13 July 2026

This Order is being introduced because of electrical maintenance works which are anticipated to be completed by 21 August 2026. This is a 24 hour road closure. The effect of the Order is to temporarily prohibit any vehicle proceeding in that part of Fairfield Close from outside No.3 to the junction of Woodgate Close. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force. Exemptions are included for emergency services and for the works and for access to premises which are only accessible from the closed section of road. This Order will remain in force for a maximum period of 18 months or until the works have been completed whichever is the sooner. (Ref: T17710/AC)
