What is happening?
THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND (FENCEHOUSES AREA) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026
Sunderland City Council gives notice that it intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which is to temporarily prohibit all vehicular, horse, pedestrian and cycle traffic from the sections of highways in the schedule below. The Order is required to facilitate gas main improvement works. The order will come into force on 20th Jul 2026. The maximum duration of the closure under the Order will be eighteen months. However, the works are expected to be completed within four months. The closures will be in effect until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. An alternative route will be provided. Due to the nature of the works an exemption for emergency services cannot be provided.
Schedule Prohibition of All Vehicles, Pedestrians, Horses and Cycles: Station Avenue North North Back – from the extended northeastern property boundary of no.8 Station Avenue North, to its southwestern extent; Station Avenue North North Back – from the extended northeastern property boundary of no.30 Station Avenue North, to its southwestern extent; Station Avenue South South Back – from the extended southwestern property boundary of no.8 Station Avenue South, to its northeastern extent; Station Avenue South South Back – from the extended southwestern property boundary of no.26 Station Avenue South, to its northeastern extent; Station Avenue North North Back – from the extended northeastern property boundary of no.63 Station Avenue North, to its southwestern extent; Brancepeth Avenue – for its entire length; and Acicia Avenue – from its junctions with Brancepeth Avenue and Avenue Vivian.
