What is happening?

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), on Thursday, 18 June 2026 in respect of the locations numbered (1), (2), (3), (4), (5), (6) & (7). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the locations numbered (8), (9), (10), & (11).
(1) BRAMHAM ROAD & BRAMHAM AVENUE, CHAPELFIELDS
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Bramham Road & Bramham Avenue, Chapelfields (i) on Bramham Road between its junctions with Bramham Grove and Bramham Avenue and (ii) on Bramham Avenue between its junctions with Bramham Road and Sanderson Court (closed roads) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0900hrs on Sunday, 21 June 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Sunday, 21 June 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Barkston Avenue, Barkston Road, Chapelfields Road, Ridgeway.
(2) HAXBY ROAD LEVEL CROSSING, HAXBY
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding through that length of road at Haxby Road Level Crossing, Haxby (closed road) during the period when railway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2359hrs on Monday, 22 June 2026 and ending at 0515hrs on Tuesday, 23 June 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via York Road, The Village, Mill Lane, Wigginton Road, A1237.
(3) POTTERY LANE, STRENSALL
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Pottery Lane, Strensall (between the projected western boundary of property known as Park House Farm and to the junction onto Carr Lane (closed roads) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1900hrs on Monday, 22 June 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Thursday, 25 June 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 1900hrs and 0600hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Sheriff Hutton Road, Moxby Lane and Carr Lane.
(4) LINK ROAD, ACOMB
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of carriageway on Link Road, Acomb between the roundabout controlled junctions with York Road and Front Street (closed roads) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2000hrs on Monday, 22 June 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Saturday, 27 June 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 2000hrs and 0600hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Front Street, Askham Lane, Ridgeway, Wetherby Road, The Green, York Road. A separate diversion for pedestrians will also be signed during the work period.
(5) MILLFIELD LANE, POPPLETON
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Millfield Lane, Poppleton between the projected north-eastern boundary of property No. 12 to its junction with Church Lane (closed roads) during the period when gas mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 22 June 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Wednesday, 01 July 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will remain closed throughout the works period with access for residents and emergency vehicles being maintained throughout. Additionally, all ‘on-street’ parking places situated (i) on both sides of Allerton Drive, between the projected north-western boundary of property No. 7 to its junction with Nether Way both sides of Riversvale Drive, (ii) between the projected north-western boundary of property No. 22 to its junction with Main Street and (iii) on the western side of Main Street between its junction with Riversvale Drive and a point 20 metres south-west of said junction will be suspended during the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Ebor Way, Allerton Drive, Riversvale Drive and Main Street.
(6) CHURCH LANE, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Church Lane, York between its junction with Low Ousegate and the projected north-western boundary of property No. 2 (closed roads) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Wednesday, 24 June 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Friday, 26 June 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will be closed throughout the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed. Access for pedestrians will be maintained throughout the works period.
(7) ALDWARK, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Aldwark, York (between the projected south-eastern boundaries of property No’s. 6 &16 (closed roads) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Wednesday, 24 June 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 26 June 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will be closed throughout the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period. Access for cyclists and pedestrians will be maintained throughout the works period.
(8) A59, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on A59, York between the junction with Northfield Lane and the York boundary at Turnbridge (closed roads) during the period when highway resurfacing works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0700hrs on Sunday, 28 June 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Sunday, 19 July 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the roads will only be closed for one day during the works period between 0700hrs and 1700hrs (weather depending). Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via A168, A19. An alternative route for diverted cyclists will be signed during the works period via Marston Lane, Afterwit Lane, Mill Lane, B1224, Wetherby Road, Beckfield Lane, Boroughbridge Road.
(9) CARR LANE, ACOMB
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Carr Lane, Acomb between the junctions with Boroughbridge Road and York Road (closed roads) during the period when highway resurfacing works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0700hrs on Sunday, 28 June 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Sunday, 19 July 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the roads will only be closed for one day during the works period between 0700hrs and 1700hrs (weather depending). Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Boroughbridge Road, Holgate Road, Acomb Road, York Road.
(10) BACK LANE SOUTH, WHELDRAKE
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Back Lane South, Wheldrake between its junctions with Main Street and South Ruddings Lane (closed roads) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 29 June 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Tuesday, 30 June 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0800hrs and 1700hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Main Street, Low Well Park.
(11) FRONT STREET, ACOMB
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of carriageway on Front Street, Acomb between the projected south-western boundary of property No. 27 and its junction with Link Road (closed roads) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2000hrs on Monday, 29 June 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Tuesday, 30 June 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. It is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 2000hrs and 0600hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Askham Lane, Ridgeway, Wetherby Road, The Green, York Road, Link Road. Access will be maintained pedestrians, residents’ vehicles and emergency vehicles throughout the works period.
The above temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access nor will they prohibit access to premises provided that access is not prevented by on-going works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
