What is happening?

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF FOOTPATH
THE NOTTINGHAMSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL

(EAST RETFORD FOOTPATH NO.20)
(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION)
CONTINUATION NO.4 ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Secretary of State Transport in pursuance of the powers conferred by Sections 14 and 15 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 approves of The Nottinghamshire County Council (East Retford Footpath No.20) (Temporary Prohibition) Notice 2024 (which came into force on 28th June 2024 and was continued by a Continuation Order which remained in force until 27th December 2024 and was then continued by a Continuation No.2 Order which remained in force until 27th December 2025 and was then further continued by a Continuation No.3 Order which remains in force until 27th June 2026 inclusive) being extended and continuing in force until 27th June 2027 or until completion of the relevant works, whichever is the sooner.

The Order has the following effect:-
No person shall: -
(a) proceed on foot, in the following length of Footpath at East Retford in the

District of Bassetlaw: -
East Retford Footpath No.20 from Morrisons Supermarket to Bolham Lane Footbridge. 

AND NOTICE IS HEREBY FURTHER GIVEN that during the period of restriction there is no alternative route available for pedestrians on public rights of way.

An alternative non definitive route has been provided inland of the riverbank for the public to use.

If the works are not completed within the above period, the Order may be extended for a longer period with the further approval of the Secretary of State for Transport.

The prohibition is required to protect public safety following damage and erosion to the riverbank footpath and to enable a long-term solution to be agreed.
