What is happening?

THE METROPOLITAN BOROUGH COUNCIL OF STOCKPORT (FOOTPATH 96, CHEADLE AND GATLEY NO.2) (TEMPORARY CLOSURE) NOTICE 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Metropolitan Borough Council of Stockport proposes to make an Order not less than 7 days from the date of this Notice under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991, the effect of which will be to introduce a Temporary Closure of Footpath 96 Cheadle and Gatley, Heald Green, from its junction with Wilmslow Road to a point approximately 350 metres east where the diverted route will rejoin the original line, whilst traffic signs to that effect are in place on or near the said footpath. This Order is necessary to ensure public safety during housing development works. It is estimated that the maximum duration of the works will be 6 months.

A diversion will be provided via the junction with Wilmslow Road in a northerly direction to Turnpike Crescent, then east and south for approximately 300m to a path running easterly to Footpath 96 CG. This Order is to come into operation on 23 July 2026 and will have effect for six months, provided that if all necessary works are completed within a shorter period this Order shall cease to have effect at the end of that shorter period.
