What is happening?

EAST SUSSEX COUNTY COUNCIL

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984

The East Sussex (B2191 Eastbourne Road, Westham)

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025 No.2

To allow Network Rail to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Eastbourne Road – from the junction with U7736 Montague Way to the junction with U7738 Pelham Close.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via B2191 Eastbourne Road – C712 Rattle Road – B2104 Lion Hill, Friday Street, Willingdon roundabout, Friday Street, Hide Hollow roundabout – B2191 Hide Hollow, Priory roundabout and vice versa.

The Order commenced 16 November 2025 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken on 21 and 22 June 2026 depending upon the weather conditions.

The East Sussex (U2131 Cornfield Road Service Road, Eastbourne)

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

To allow South East Water to carry out works, East Sussex County Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Cornfield Road Service Road – from the junction with U2131 Lushington Lane to the junction with A259 South Street.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic northbound via A259 South Street, Gildredge Road – U2131 Lushington Road, Cornfield Road Service Road and southbound via U2131 Cornfield Road Service Road, Lushington Road – U2132 Cornfield Road – A259 Memorial roundabout, South Street.

The Order commences 6 July 2026 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken between 6 and 8 July 2026 depending upon the weather conditions.

The East Sussex (A259 Eastbourne Road/Pevensey Bay Road)

(40mph Speed Limit) Order 2026

NOTICE is hereby given that East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 84 (1) and (2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, and of all other enabling powers, which will reduce the speed limit in the following length of road;

40 mph Speed Limit

A259 Eastbourne Road/Pevensey Bay Road - from a point 154 metres southwest of the junction with Grenville Road southwesterly to a point 108 metres northeast of the roundabout with Pacific Drive.

A copy of the Order which will come into effect on 22 June 2026, plan showing the length of road, the order being revoked and a statement of the Council’s reasons for proposing the Order may be inspected in Reception, East Sussex County Council, County Hall, St Anne’s Crescent, Lewes BN7 1UE on Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm and online at;

Any person wishing to question the validity of the Order or any of its provisions on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act of 1984, or on the grounds that any requirement of the Road Traffic Regulation Act or of any instrument made under it has not been complied with in relation to the Order, may within six weeks of the date of this notice, apply to the High Court for this purpose.
