What is happening?

NORTH LANARKSHIRE COUNCIL
BONKLE ROAD, NEWMAINS (TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE) ORDER 2026

On 15 June 2026 the North Lanarkshire Council made the above-named Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended by Schedule 1 of the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991, and in exercise of all other enabling powers, which makes it unlawful for any person to drive or cause or permit to be driven any motor vehicle (with the exception of vehicles engaged in facilitating Gas Network upgrade works) on Bonkle Road, Newmains from the extended east kerbline of A73 Westwood Road (roundabout junction) eastwards to the extended west kerbline of the Kildare Place, a distance of 90m or thereby by reason of works being executed on or near that location.

Alternative routes: Vehicles on the east side of the closure on Bonkle Road wishing access to the west side of the closure (roundabout junction with A73) should proceed via Bonkle Road, Allanton Road, A71 and A71 Morningside Road. Vehicles on the west side of the closure (roundabout junction with A73) wishing access to the east side of the closure on Bonkle Road should proceed vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained, where practicable, during the closure.

The Order, will come into operation at 0001 hours on Monday, 29 June 2026 and will remain in operation until 2359 hours on Sunday, 9 August 2026.
