The East Sussex (Public Bridleway Mayfield and Five Ashes 38b (part))

(Temporary Bridleway Closure) Order 2024

To protect public safety during essential water supply replacement works, the Secretary of State has extended the above East Sussex County Council’s Order made on 9 August 2024 under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following bridleway:

Temporary Bridleway Closure

Part of Public Bridleway Mayfield and Five Ashes 38b will be closed between TQ 6043 3016 and TQ 6045 3010. An alternative route will be available to the east of the closure as signed.

The closure will be in force for 12 months from 19 June 2026, or until the works are completed, whichever is the earlier, which after this period will require an extension from the Secretary of State, should the bridleway still be unavailable to use.

The East Sussex (Avis Road, Newhaven) (Restricted Road and 40mph Speed Limit) Order 2026 NOTICE is hereby given that East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 84(1) and (2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, and of all other enabling powers, which amends the speed limits in the following lengths of road;

SCHEDULE ONE – Restricted Road

Avis Road, from a point approximately 23 metres northwest of Newhaven its junction with Avis Way, northwestwards to a point approximately 50 metres north of New Road (cul-de-sac).

SCHEDULE TWO – 40 mph Speed Limit

Avis Road, from a point approximately 50 metres north of its Newhaven junction with New Road (cul-de-sac), northwards to its junction with A26 New Road.

A copy of the Order, which will come into effect on 22 June 2026, plan showing the length of road, the order being revoked and a statement of the Council’s reasons for making the Order may be inspected in Reception, East Sussex County Council, County Hall, St Anne’s Crescent, Lewes BN7 1UE on Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm and online at; https://consultation.eastsussex.gov.uk/economy-transport-environment/avis-road-newhavenconsultation

Any person wishing to question the validity of the Order or any of its provisions on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act of 1984, or on the grounds that any requirement of the Road Traffic Regulation Act or of any instrument made under it has not been complied with in relation to the Order, may within six weeks of the date of this notice, apply to the High Court for this purpose.

The East Sussex (U5473 Church Lane, Seaford)

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026 No.3

To allow South East Water to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure Church Lane – for its full extent.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible.

The Order commences 25 June 2026 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken between 25 and 29 June 2026 depending upon the weather conditions.

The East Sussex (C9 Nether Lane/Down Street, Nutley/Piltdown)

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

To allow BT Openreach to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Nether Lane/Down Street – from the junction with A272 Batts Bridge Road to the junction with A22 High Street.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via A22 High Street, Fords Green Road, Courtlands Road, Horney Common Road, Maresfield bypass – A272 Batts Bridge Road and vice versa.

The Order commenced 29 April 2025 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken on 23 and 24 June 2025 depending upon the weather conditions.

The East Sussex (C15 Featherbed Lane, Hailsham)

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

To allow Openreach to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Featherbed Lane – from the junction with A271 Amberstone to the junction with C15 Cowbeech Hill.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via C15 Featherbed Lane, Cowbeech Hill – C344 Stunts Green, West End – A271 Hailsham Road, New Road, Amberstone and vice versa.

The Order commences 25 June 2026 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken on 25 and 26 June 2026 depending upon the weather conditions.

To allow BT Openreach to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

St Johns Road – from the junction with C40 High Street to the junction with U7342 Church Road.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via U7342 St Johns Road – C40 High Street – U7342 Church Road and vice versa.

The Order commences 24 June 2026 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken on 24 and 25 June 2026 depending upon the weather conditions.

Temporary Road Closure

Butlers Lane – from the junction with U7696 Church Road to the junction with U7697 Lower Road.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via U7123 Butlers Lane – U7696 Church Road – U7697 Lower Road and vice versa.

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026 No.2

To allow South East Water to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Beechwood Lane – from the junction with U5658 Allington Lane to the junction with C6 Chiltington Lane.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via C6 Chiltington Lane, Highbridge Lane, Novington Lane – C323 Honeypot Lane, Mill Lane – A275 South Road, Resting Oak Hill, Cooksbridge Road – C6 Beechwood Lane and vice versa.

The Order commences 22 June 2026 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken on 22 and 23 June 2026 depending upon the weather conditions.

The East Sussex (C411 Saltmarsh Lane, Hailsham)

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

To allow South East Water to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Saltmarsh Lane – from the junction with B2104 Ersham Road to the junction with C411 Downash Road.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via B2104 Ersham Road – A295 South Road – C411 Station Road, Downash Road, Saltmarsh Lane and vice versa.

The Order commences 22 June 2026 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken between 22 and 24 June 2026 depending upon the weather conditions.

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026 No.2

To allow PJ Brown Civil Engineering Ltd to carry out works, East Sussex County Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Beechy Road – from the junction with U7510 Bushbury Lane to the junction with B2192 Lewes Road.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via U7510 Bushbury Lane – B2192 Lewes Road and vice versa. The Order commences 6 July 2026 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken between 6 and 10 July 2026 depending upon the weather conditions.

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

To allow Openreach to carry out works, East Sussex County Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

North Hall Lane – from the junction with A275 Sheffield Park to the junction with C206 High Street.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via C206 High Street, Church Street, Ruston Bridge Road – A272 Batts Bridge Road, Goldbridge Road, The Green, High Street, Western Road, Station Road – A275 East Grinstead Road, Sheffield Park and vice versa.

The Order commences 6 July 2026 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken on 6 and 7 July 2026 depending upon the weather conditions.

The East Sussex (U7597 Cowden Hall Lane, Horam)

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026 No.2

To allow BT Openreach to carry out works, East Sussex County Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Cowden Hall Lane – from the junction with C208 Marle Green to the junction with C596 Foords Lane.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via U7597 Cowden Hall Lane – C596 Foords Lane, Ballsocks Lane – C406 Nettlesworth Lane, Laundry Lane – C208 Marle Green and vice versa.

The Order commences 9 July 2026 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken from 09:30hrs to 15:30hrs on 9 July 2026 depending upon the weather conditions.

The East Sussex (U5906 Bannings Vale & U5905 Hamsey Road, Saltdean)

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

To allow East Sussex Highways to carry out works, East Sussex County Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following lengths of road;

Temporary Road Closures

Bannings Vale – from the junction with A259 Marine Drive to the junction with U5901 Crowborough Road.

Diversion via A259 Marine Drive – U5905 Hamsey Road, Bannings Vale.

Hamsey Road – from the junction with A259 Marine Drive to the junction with U5906 Bannings Vale. Diversion northbound via A259 Marine Drive, South Coast Road – U5820 Highview Road, Amhurst Road – U5821 Broomfield Avenue – A259 South Coast Road, Marine Drive – A259 Marine Drive (BHCC) – Longridge Avenue (BHCC) – U5900 Lynwood Road – U5901 Crowborough Road – U5906 Bannings Vale and southbound via U5906 Bannings Vale – A259 Marine Drive.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible.

The Order commences 6 July 2026 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken between 6 and 10 July 2026 depending upon the weather conditions.

The East Sussex (Love Supreme Festival, Glynde)

(Temporary Traffic Regulation) Order 2026

To facilitate the safety of participants, organisers and the travelling public attending the Love Supreme Festival in Glynde, East Sussex County Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily impose restrictions in the following lengths of road:-

Temporary Prohibition of Left Hand Turn No vehicle shall be permitted to turn left onto C113 New Road from Glyndebourne.

Temporary One-Way Traffic

C325 Moor Lane – restricting traffic travelling westbound from the junction with U5664 Neaves Lane to the junction with C113 New Road.

Temporary 20 mph Speed Limit

C113 The Street/Station Road/Lacys Hill/Bishops Walk/New Road/Ranscombe Lane – from the junction with U5665 Ranscombe Lane to the entrance to Glyndebourne.

C325 Moor Lane – from the junction with C113 New Road to the junction with U5664 Neaves Lane.

Temporary Prohibition of Waiting C325 Moor Lane – from the junction with C113 New Road to the junction with U5664 Neaves Lane.

C113 Bishops Walk/Lacys Hill/The Street/New Road/Ranscombe Lane/Station Road – from the junction with C113 New Road to the national speed limit sign.

C113 New Road – from the junction with C325 Moor Lane to the entrance to Glyndebourne.

U5665 Ranscombe Lane – from the junction with C113 The Street south-westwards for a distance of 200 metres.

Temporary Road Closure

C325 Moor Lane – at the junction with U5644 Neaves Lane (no access to the event).

The Order will be in force from 06:00hrs on 3 July 2026 to 14:00hrs on 6 July 2026

The East Sussex (London to Brighton Bike Ride)

(Special Event) Order 2026

To enable the British Heart Foundation to hold the London to Brighton Bike Ride on Sunday 21 June 2026, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 16 A to C of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily bring into force the following restrictions:-

Route to be followed

No person shall cause or permit any vehicle that is not participating in, or connected with the London to Brighton Bike Ride to proceed in, exit from, or turn into any of the lengths of road specified below, except upon the direction or with the permission of a police constable in uniform or that of a uniformed marshal who will be responsible for regulating the traffic flow:Restrictions will be in place from 07:00hrs to 19:30hrs on Sunday 21 June 2026.

Temporary Road Closures

B2112 Fox Hill/Ditchling Road (locally known as Luncies Hill) – from the border with West Sussex, south to the junction with B2113 Folders Lane roundabout.

Diversion via A273 Brighton Road, London Road, Issac’s Lane, then onto the A272.

B2112 Common Lane, Ditchling – from the junction with B2113 Folders Lane roundabout through Ditchling village leading into C203 Beacon Road/Ditchling Road, to the C5060 junction with C4500 Carden Avenue (Old Boat Corner), Brighton.

Alternative route via C4500 Carden Avenue – Brighton & Hove bypass – A23(T) London Road – A273 Clayton Hill – B2112 New Road – C306 Lodge Lane – B2116 Keymer Road – C306 Ockley Lane/Keymer Road – B2113 Folders Lane, in both directions.

Further, to prohibit traffic from exiting from side roads onto the B2112 and C203 – U5241 South View, Orchard Lane, Dumbrells Court, C656 East End Lane, U5651 Church Lane, B2116 West Street, Lewes Road, B2112 Clayton Road, U5652 Nevill Cottages, U5682 Long Park Corner & U5240 Underhill Lane (west and east) will be closed.

C6 Green Road, Wivelsfield – at the junction of the B2112 at the mini roundabout.

Diversion for northbound traffic on B2112 Ditchling Road/Fox Hill via C322 North Common Road – B2183 Beggars Wood Road then onto the A272 & southbound traffic via C6 South Road – C71 St Helena Lane – C71 Folders Lane East.

Temporary Prescribed Route – Ahead Only

B2112 Ditchling Road – at the Folders Lane roundabout junction with B2113 Folders Lane and Folders Lane East, eastbound and westbound traffic will have no right turn and no left turn in force.

Eastbound traffic travelling north on the B2112 will be diverted via Keymer Road & then north on the A273 Brighton Road.

Westbound traffic travelling north on the B2112 will be diverted via Folders Lane, south on Keymer Road – Ockley Lane – Keymer Road West to the A273, then north on the A273 to the A272.

Vehicles travelling north on Streat Lane will be diverted via St Helena Lane – South Road – North Common Road – Beggars Wood Road and the A272.

Vehicles travelling north on Plumpton Lane/Station Road will be diverted via South Road & then onto North Common Road.

Temporary Prohibition of Waiting

B2116 Lewes Road, Ditchling – south side – from the termination point of the No Waiting “At Any Time” restrictions at the eastern boundary of No.2 Lewes Road, eastwards to a point outside of Hob Cottage opposite the entrance to The Bull car park, a distance of 19 metres. This is required to maintain a free flow of traffic for cyclists and motor vehicles.
